Has anyone tried this tool out from DeWalt instead of the PC?

What do you think? Would it work? (without the dust collector of course. I wonder if it is removable)

I have tried the Aust version with success. As the PC is not available here I gave a mates Dewalt the test with a 3M-waffle pad and Meguiar’s W8006.

Although it weighs a little heavier than my Skil Random Orbital the manoeuvrability especially with the 3M-waffle pad was extremely easy. Using Meguiar’s No.9 I felt the 3M waffle pad (Dark Grey in colour/Soft density) with a higher speed setting, out performed the Meguiar’s W8006 (yellow/medium Density) at medium to high speeds.

The 3M was easier to control, yet retained the polish from flying off, although this is no reflection of the Dewalt.

One standout between the two was the minimal amount of heat the Dewalt generated in the plastic body. I don’t know about the PC but compared to the Skil after 20mins of use it felt like the Dewalt didn’t even get to warm up, most likely due to the job it was intended for, as an industrial sander/polisher. I want one but unfortunately at $340AUD its not a worthwhile buy me.

Cheers

Good to hear, thank you for the information.

Now, I wonder if the pad kit I bought from CMA for the PC works with the dewalt.

I am sure the DeWalt is a good machine, I love my DeWalt rotary. But, I do have one concern with this machine. The lowest speed is 4,300 OPM. That is a bit fast for the lowest setting, the PC starts at 2500 OPM.

It may not seem like a big deal, but when you really want to work those polishes the lower speeds (2500-3500) are great. Also if you plan on applying any sealants with it the 4300 OPM may be a little much.

My Skil Random Orbital does 6000-12000 OPM. At first as suggested I assumed this would be way to fast, but as soon as the slightest resistant/pressure is applied using a softer pad, the Orbital slows up quite considerably. Got splattered with Meguiar’s #9 once as I removed the Orbital from the surface as the orbits greatly increased.

Using 12000 OPM speed setting is very hand as the speed does decrease when in actual use, I have easily removed deep water etching from the oldies dark green metallic car with #9 making two passes per panel. I was surprised with the results as I assumed a fine/medium cutting compound would be required but IMO the speed the product was applied did the job.

One feature you don’t want in a Higher Speed Random Orbital is the compensating feature they offer(forgot what manufactures actually call it). Basically it’s a feature that keeps the Orbital at the same speed with or without pressure applied.

Cheers
