I don`t get it. If the 7424 is shipped with 6" pads, why does it come with 5" counterweight?? I read that you have to buy the correct counterweight and change it yourself.

Well, my 7424 came with a 5" pad and a 5" counterweight. I`ve used 6" pads on it and it vibrates a good bit. So I bought the 6" counterweight to reduce the vibrating.

The white Porter Cable pad with backing plate attached is 5". The yellow Meguiar`s pad with backing plate attached is 6". All the pads in the CMA kit are 6".

The reason for the 5" weight is buffing and polishing pads with the normal backing plate have less mass than a 6" sanding plate so they require less counter weight.

Now if you step up to the velcro backing plate then you would want the 6" weight to inhibit vibration. It is all about what you can live with like bret said.

Does CMA`s PC they sell come with a 5" or 6" counterweight? I just purchased the 7336SP from www.internationaltool.com for $103.00 (comes with 6" CW). The total savings was $70 but if I needed to get a new counterweight for CMA`s PC then I saved even more. Just makes ya wonder hmmmmmmm
