How many of you do it? I think it is one f the best parts of being a detail freak! Do you all have any pics?

I think that people think that tons of people have clean cars but when you open the hood and it is clean they get a real kick out of it!!!!

I have been saying I was going to detail my engine but have not got around to it.My truck sits up kinda high and I know its going to be a back breaker.Maybe some tips on making it an easy task would be great.

Here`s a thread (`http://www.autopia-carport.com/forum/showthread.php3?s=&threadid=4420`) showing some before and after pics of a detail on a dirty minivan engine.

I`m interested too. I use Simple Green on my wheels to remove the brake dust. Suppose that will work for the engine compartment too? I like the stuff because it`s non-toxic. I would think you would want to avoid pivoting parts in the engine compartment while cleaning, i.e. carbs or throttle bodies, cables, etc, or you will remove necessary lubricants. That`s the reason I haven`t done mine yet.

Here is how not to do it. A few months ago wanted to sell my old BMW commuter car and figured a clean engine wouldn`t hurt. Drove that sucka to the car wash and blasted the heck out of the engine compartment with pre-soak, soap, wax, whatever they had.:D I could hardly breathe from all the steam! The engine compartment was certainly clean, but I`m sure I lost all the lubrication from parts that could probably use it. Oh well, the car sold!

Cheers,

Jeff

I am all about engine detailing!! I`ve had customers that only want me to do their engine because they know I`ll do a good job on it. It isn`t very hard to do but I`m just incredibly detail oriented so I always pay attention to the things that other people miss. A clean engine speaks better of the car owner than a clean car in general. The engine is the part that most people don`t see so if people see that the engine is clean I believe their opinion of your car care gets a boost. :) I`ll post some pics after I get a chance to detail my car again. You could eat off my engine!

Here`s my thread from earlier this year on the engine bay of the XKR.

I just did the XJR last month but have not taken any pictures.

I also looked around and could not find the awesome pictures of the engine bay of Brad`s XK150. A 40 year old car that you can eat off the engine.

...wow... I just sat here and stared at your pictures Redcar Guy. Those are amazing!! It looks like a brand new engine! You aren`t getting out alive unless you tell me exactly what you do step by step. I know I`m only going to be trying to make a 4 cylinder engine look as good as yours but I can sure try.
