what do you do about pinstripes painted on the car? do it by hand?

also if i were to do an old firebird, what about the hood and the huge bird logo?

I tape off pinstrips when using the PC. I would also tape off old graphics, which may be fragile.

I usually do right next to the pin stripes by hand and then when buffing I just buff close to the stripe but if the pad touches, it isn`t really a big deal.
Same thing with the bird logo ...

Will a DA take of a pin stripe with ssr2.5? I have two on my car and black which looks good and a grey which has started to come off in many places... if i could get the grey off and leave the black, that would be ideal.

What type of tape would you use as not to harm what you are taping off??????

I would just keep the DA away from tape pinstripes and decals, seems pretty easy instead of wasting time taping them and risking harm with the tape...

For painted stripes I always tape them off with painters tape. It has just enough adhesion but rarely is a problem removing (leaving residue).

Now some stripes are underneath the clear coat but this is rare. Just to be safe, tape them off if you are unsure.

Then we have vinyl stripes which may not be burned off like painted stripes but they should also be taped off because product residue can build up along the edges and ruin the detail as it looks UGLY and very unprofessional.

Painted stripes can easily be removed with a PC, compund and cutting pad so I always tape them off even if cleaning/polishing by hand.

Fopr large logos, like the Phoenix on the Trans Am, I tape off the outer edges and then cover the centers with painters paper.

I also use the painters paper on the glass and windshield.
