View Full Version : EXO v2 & OC 2.0 after a rough NY Winter

My car has traveled close to 9,000 miles since I applied the EVO v2. I have done nothing to top up the coating other than regular 2BM washing when the temps were over 32 degrees and 1 winter wash in a texas style car wash all winter long.

Just to put this NY winter in perspective we had a total of 14 storms and so much snow that the local municipalities were dunning low on rock salt and snow.

My daily driver was exposed to the elements 24x7. I do have a truck I drive when the snow is very deep but that is why I listed the mileage on the car.

This weekend the temperatures went into the hi 50s so I decided to scrape the winter patina off my car and my wife`s MDX. My car is wearing EXO v2 and her is Opticoat 2.0 both applied by your truly.

The wheels and wells took a lot of time. I had pebbles of tar stuck to the barrels and we need an additional Wheel woollie that has a kitchen scrubby on it for such situations. I got the interiors vacuumed, all 8 wheels washed and the car rinsed, quick washed by the time the sun went down. If looked pretty good to me under the lights. I say some remaining tar on the car. The kind that looks like hairs but its tar......... Lots around the wheel wells and splat areas. It comes from road crews fixing potholes with ht tar and when you drive over it, it flies up and sticks to your cold car. Loads of fun to clean.
Total time invested 2.5 Hrs so far.
Day 2
Soak car with PW and apply P21S TAW generously to the tar. Scrub with new Large Wheel Woolie. Worked like a charm. Did this to both cars and it made quick work of the tar spots. Did not need to break out the Tarminator.

After that was done I rinsed them and washed with a 2BM and rinsed. WOW the EXO is beading like new. Better than before the P21S TAW. I did not TAW the roof but after seeing the difference I TAW the roof and wow the beading is back to like New. The EXO cleaned nice, is still slick and continues to impress me. The EXO v2 was applied in 8/2013

The MDX cleaned up just as easily with the TAW, the OC 2.0 is not doubt a good performer but it is no longer beading like new. The OC 2.0 was applied in 8/2012 and the age may be the reason.

Time invested 1.5 hours on both cars for day 2. Finished as the sun was going down and the chil back in the air

I plan on letting these coatings run as is longer. If I cannot resurrect the OC 2.0 I may polish and re-apply it or EXO the MDX. Time will tell I may even throw CQuartz into the mix.

SO far, 2 great products. I think the beading goes to the EXO and the durability to the OC 2.0 (But not by much)

How is it compared to exo v1 (spray on)?

You guys are right, and shame on me for not doing a better job documenting this but it was suck a daunting clean up that I was so focused on the getting it done, I forgot to stop and take a few pic`s / videos.

sorry, but no pics, this never happened. :D

Steve :) I do have a morning after Pic. Got to dark on day 2. I was streaming music thru my phone and did not take videos.

I will post the picks later when I get home. They are already on photo bucket

I preferred the aerosol version for application. It was more expensive but I could cover more area faster and I really liked that. You spray a MF towel folded in 1/4`s and wipe it on, let it flash and knock off the high spots. Could apply the whole car in 25 minutes once I got my process down. The v2 is the make-up pad shuffle. I am so impatient that it feels like painting a house with a Q-tip to me. But until I see a better way I am doing it that way.

The finished product looked equal to me. The aerosol version was on a car that did not survive the hurricane so I cannot speak to the durability of V1. It was on great for about 3-4months. when they took the car away it was beading like crazy.

The product in this review is v2. If they made v2 in aerosol, I would order it immediately. I really think I should try the cquartz just so I can compare. In my mind I wonder, could it be better? What if it is and I never try it because the I thought the EXO was the BEST? Think I gotta try cquartz on my silver truck that needs a whole lotta love. I am conflicted for sure on that one. I also just re-read the last few sentences and I realize I have a problem.

Are you sure you aren`t noticing the sheeting ability of opti-coat 2.0 instead of its beading? From personal experience, OC 2.0 sheets way more than it beads.

I guess it is possible but it used to bead better than it does not. In all fairness the OC is from 8/2012

try a very light surface clay on the oc, maybe you picked up some contamination.

I would Iron-X the surface. Clay will always leave some amount of marring.
