Review: Permanon Super-Matte

Introduction:

When this gorgeous Designo Magno Night Black AMG SL63 showed up the first time (http://www.autopiaforums.com/forums/detailers-showcase/42966-now-something-completely-different.html), I could wash it (had CG Meticulous Matte Auto Wash and Meticulous Matte Detailer) but couldn`t really protect it. Note - some manufacturers claim you don`t need to protect matte paint but that is patently untrue. This one already had a couple of small pollen etches on the hood and I still haven`t brought myself to use the recommended VM&P Naphtha on it. Didn`t want to go the SwissVax route because of the buffing to remove it. So what does that leave?

Thanks again to Corey for providing the format.

Product Claims:

From Autopia Car Care site -

"Maximum protection without alternating the look of matte finishes

Easy to apply surface coating offers powerful protection
Nano grade Silicium molecules electrostatically bond to the surface
Creates durable coating of protection without increasing shine

Permanon Super-Matte Finish Protection gives your finish scientifically engineered protection without increasing gloss or adding sheen. It is 21st Century protection that is ideal for matte (flat) paint surfaces, rubber, glass, films/foils, plastics and other non-reflective hard surfaces. Permanon Super-Matte Finish Protection does not contain any carnauba wax or gloss enhancers. It is a durable Silicium shell that offers extreme protection against acids, alkalies, solvents and UV damage. Permanon Super-Matte Finish Protection coats the microscopic terrain of the surface for maximum protection without additional gloss.

While flat or matte paint finishes have become popular in recent years they are notoriously delicate and difficult to maintain. Most waxes and paint sealants will add sheen to the surface. Waxes that feature polishing agents will smooth the matte`s microscopic texture, increasing shine. Permanon Super-Matte Finish Protection adds valuable, durable protection to your delicate matte finish. Permanon Super-Matte Finish Protection uses an electrostatic charge to draw itself into the surface for durable adhesion and the ultimate in protection. The key ingredient in Permanon Super-Matte Finish Protection is nano engineered Silicium (Si14). This is the same ingredient used to make glass. With careful science, Permanon Super-Matte coats your paint in nano sized platelets of Silicium that offers superior protection without increasing the shine.

This incredible product is the conglomeration of modern science and German engineering. The Silicium ingredients in Permanon Super-Matte Finish Protection are nano grade. A nanometer is 1/1,000,000,000th of a meter in size. This gives Super-Matte the ability to cover the entire surface, including microscopic pores, for total protection. Each Silicium molecule is positively charged. All surfaces have a negative charge. When diluted with water and misted onto the surface, Permanon Super-Matte Finish Protection will be pulled to the surface through an electrical charge to offer complete coverage and powerful bonding.

Because Permanon Super-Matte Finish Protection bonds on the nano level, it preserves the original surface material. Permanon Super-Matte Finish Protection works on almost all hard surfaces including paint, plastics, metals, painted or varnished wood, gel coat, glass, tile, stone, and more. It is an extremely effective, long lasting water repellent that is resistant to nearly all acids, alkaline solutions and solvents while offering significant protection against ultra violet light and sun fade. Once bonded to the surface, Permanon Super-Matte Finish Protection can only be removed with pH solutions greater than 12 or through abrasion (sanding or polishing)."

Other Products Used:

Porter Cable Pancake Air Compressor
Harbor Freight Detail Spray Gun (Item # 92126)
MFs
MetroVac SideKick

Preparation:

Washed car (in this particular case with P21S Gel Wheel Cleaner and CG Meticulous Matte Auto Wash on the appropriate surfaces).

Application:

Mix to desired dilution. Cover with an even, light coat. Dry. Use distilled water for any spotting.

Observations:

Extremely easy to apply. Leaves a super silky, slick surface. Makes the car substantially easier to clean. Pollen washed right off without the slightest hint at etching. Leaves the surface absolutely matte.

I apply to a wet car and have found using a MF to get most of the water off and then following with the MetroVac to save much time and frustration chasing the droplets as they explode when you hit them with the MetroVac - especially the big one.

I also apply to all exterior surfaces: paint, wheels, glass and trim. (I guess not all - I don`t apply to tires. ;) )

I realize there isn`t that much visible difference but that is kind of the point on this one.

Does it meet its claims? Yes.

Pros:

1.- Easy application
2.- Fast application - maybe 5 min
3.- Awesome matte finish.

???:

1.- Durability - the car returned after 6 weeks and it was going strong. Reapplied the 2% solution.

Cons:

1.- High cost of entry.

Final Observations and Summary:

I have fallen in love with the Permanon line and this was the car & product that started that. I cannot imagine a better way to care for a matte car. I have used the sister product, Permanon Platinum, on my own car (http://www.autopiaforums.com/forums/detailers-showcase/43517-my-toy.html) and my buddy`s, Jason AKA MugelloM, wheels (http://www.autopiaforums.com/forums/tire-wheel-chassis-engine-detailing/42759-answer-bmw-brake-dust.html). Cannot recommend more highly.

If you can get passed the high cost of entry, it actually is a fairly cost effective product, Initial application cost about $3 (I used a 10% solution) but the follow-ups are only about $0.75 every 6 weeks.

Comments and questions are encouraged. Thanks for viewing!

Haha, saving it for the next contest? I am curious if you could tell the difference in a matte soap vs normal wash soap.

Thanks Ben.

Hmm... I believe there could be another review coming! ;)
