Here is a car that I have been waiting for 6 months to get my hands on. My good friend David Purser of Unique Mobile Detailing in Bristol VA had invited myself Tru Shine Detailing of Knoxville TN and Barry Theal of Presidential Detailing in Lancaster PA. We were invited down to work on this #3 in the US McLaren MP4-12c. The McLaren MP4-12C is a sports car designed and manufactured by McLaren Automotive. It is the first production car wholly designed and built by McLaren since the McLaren F1. The car`s final design was unveiled on 8 September 2009, and it is set to be launched in 2011. The MP4-12C features a carbon fibre composite chassis, and is powered by a mid-mounted McLaren M838T 3.8-litre V8, twin-turbo engine developing approximately 592 bhp and around 443 lb·ft of torque.

Lets get this show on the road.

We will start with a few Bonus pics to get your blood pumping.

Here`s a hint of what kind of fine Automobiles we were surrounded by while working on this monster.

And now for the McLaren Detail.

Being 36 degrees outside, we all had our winter gear on for the wash process.

This Is David removing the license plate before the wash.

With this car being "Titanium Silver Metallic" It was very difficult to find defects and show them on camera. With only a few factory DA sand marks and Random Scratches (RIDs), we were able to get a couple to show up on the camera.

The owner had already been out enjoying the car for a couple weeks. so the wheels you could tell were covered in brake dust.

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k126/ericwitt04/TruShine%20detailing/Mclaren%20MP4-12c/8d8c2501.jpg

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k126/ericwitt04/TruShine%20detailing/Mclaren%20MP4-12c/7b36029a.jpg

Next we pull the McLaren out side for the wash and decontamination process

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k126/ericwitt04/TruShine%20detailing/Mclaren%20MP4-12c/2ddb3557.jpg

We always start with cleaning the wheels first. this will help keep water off the paint preventing water spots while taking out time cleaning the wheels.
For cleaning the wheels we used Sonax Full Effect. This Wheel cleaner is a Safe pH balanced wheel cleaner and will actually dissolve the Iron particles from the brakes and start to turn red letting you know it is working.

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k126/ericwitt04/TruShine%20detailing/Mclaren%20MP4-12c/d66818b4.jpg

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k126/ericwitt04/TruShine%20detailing/Mclaren%20MP4-12c/161db6eb.jpg

To help get into the deep wheels, we used a EZ detail brush, this brush can fold in and form and is very thin to get in between the calibers and barrels.

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k126/ericwitt04/TruShine%20detailing/Mclaren%20MP4-12c/003b71f2.jpg

Another brush that is amazing are the Wheel Woolies.

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k126/ericwitt04/TruShine%20detailing/Mclaren%20MP4-12c/b198af1e.jpg

Next is The Barry Theal proudly standing in front of the Tru Shine van pre-rinsing the the McLaren knocking loose any Heavy/loose Debris.

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k126/ericwitt04/TruShine%20detailing/Mclaren%20MP4-12c/d1cd4a1c.jpg

Next the McLaren is given a thorough foam bath which helps give the dirt a suspension while washing with the mitt and will help prevent the paint from getting marred up.

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k126/ericwitt04/TruShine%20detailing/Mclaren%20MP4-12c/46cf579e.jpg

For the Wash mitt we used the Detailed Image ReThickulous Wool wash mitt.

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k126/ericwitt04/TruShine%20detailing/Mclaren%20MP4-12c/2457cab8.jpg

Next the car was brought in to be dried off

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k126/ericwitt04/TruShine%20detailing/Mclaren%20MP4-12c/ab1db073.jpg

We used the Metro Vac N Blo to blow out all the water that hides in all the cracks and crevices.

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k126/ericwitt04/TruShine%20detailing/Mclaren%20MP4-12c/40810376.jpg

Next I had to show The Barry Theal how to properly tape off a McLaren, Taping off the plastic Trim will help keep any residue from getting on it and turning it white.

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k126/ericwitt04/TruShine%20detailing/Mclaren%20MP4-12c/eb8302aa.jpg

Here is another defect of the lower section of the pass door.

It is Very important to stay on top of any new innovative detailing products that come on the market. So here I am testing out a new Clay bar method that will actually replace clay barring all in general. This is the NEW Nanoskin AutoScrub 6" pad with Nanoskin lube. This rubber polymer pad gently scrubs the surface remove the rail dust, overspray and other bonded contaminates.

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k126/ericwitt04/TruShine%20detailing/Mclaren%20MP4-12c/9e210b47.jpg

For this Car we had a Triple Tag Team of the Dynabrade attachments on our Rotary buffer. This attachment is a Swirl killing machine!

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k126/ericwitt04/TruShine%20detailing/Mclaren%20MP4-12c/5b4d37a3.jpg

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k126/ericwitt04/TruShine%20detailing/Mclaren%20MP4-12c/2adcc3ae.jpg

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k126/ericwitt04/TruShine%20detailing/Mclaren%20MP4-12c/54c81ef9.jpg

With severe orange peel on the rear wing, Barry opted to use some Abralon sanding disc on the Griot`s 3in Da to level it out.

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k126/ericwitt04/TruShine%20detailing/Mclaren%20MP4-12c/84cbf0ae.jpg

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k126/ericwitt04/TruShine%20detailing/Mclaren%20MP4-12c/297ed5bf.jpg

With the Help of Festool and PFW pad using the Meguiars M101, the sand scratches didn`t even have a chance!

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k126/ericwitt04/TruShine%20detailing/Mclaren%20MP4-12c/574dfa78.jpg

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k126/ericwitt04/TruShine%20detailing/Mclaren%20MP4-12c/283cf96d.jpg

to help remove a couple deeper scratches I upped my choice of pad from the Green light cutting pad, to the Megs MF cutting disc and D300

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k126/ericwitt04/TruShine%20detailing/Mclaren%20MP4-12c/7b85cda7.jpg

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k126/ericwitt04/TruShine%20detailing/Mclaren%20MP4-12c/910d1748.jpg

David removing LOTS of defects in the door jams.

refining the Carbon engine panels

David "Cue tipping" the old compound residue

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k126/ericwitt04/TruShine%20detailing/Mclaren%20MP4-12c/2e7b4966.jpg

getting close to finishing up, Barry uses some Optimum Opti-Bond Tire Gel for the Tires

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k126/ericwitt04/TruShine%20detailing/Mclaren%20MP4-12c/19bc9452.jpg

While David gives it a good dusting and Vacuum.

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k126/ericwitt04/TruShine%20detailing/Mclaren%20MP4-12c/d73d9a7b.jpg`

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k126/ericwitt04/TruShine%20detailing/Mclaren%20MP4-12c/f31a29aa.jpg

I treated the rear plastic with some 303 areospace protectant, this gives the plastic protection from uv rays and still leaves a nice satin shine

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k126/ericwitt04/TruShine%20detailing/Mclaren%20MP4-12c/f00f6856.jpg

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k126/ericwitt04/TruShine%20detailing/Mclaren%20MP4-12c/f32fc8ca.jpg

For the LSP(Last step Protection) we used the Notorious HD Nitro Seal, and Ive gotta say, I LOVE this stuff. very easy to use, and easy to wipe off and give about a year of proteciton.

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k126/ericwitt04/TruShine%20detailing/Mclaren%20MP4-12c/a9db596f.jpg
