Hi!

I`m looking to buy a steam cleaner for under 200 bucks. Any thoughts?

Thanks

Are you talking about a real steam cleaner, or a hot water extractor for carpets, seats etc?

If you mean an extractor there are really not many options. A pro extractor can run $1,000 or more. Some just use a shop vac to suck the water out of carpets, it works fairly well and can be had for not much $$$. Bissel makes a home use extractor for $100, the suction is not the best but it`s better than nothing. http://www.target.com/common/catalog/product.jhtml?prodid=44394&navAction=jump&navCount=1 (`http://www.target.com/common/catalog/product.jhtml?prodid=44394&navAction=jump&navCount=1`)

It`s hard to answer because there are trade offs with each machine. A shop vac is going to have much better suction, but you also have to keep your water hot in a spray bottle to use it. I prefer the shop vac because it can do double duty, that is it can clean seats and carpets but you can also use it for your regular vacuming. If you get a shop vac make sure you get one with enough HP to meet your needs.

What ShowroomLincoln said is good advice. I have a Hoover steamvac http://hoover.com/db/xq/asp.products/CatID.6/SubID.9/qx/5-BrushAgitation.htm (`http://hoover.com/db/xq/asp.products/CatID.6/SubID.9/qx/5-BrushAgitation.htm`) and use the upholstery attachment for the car. It does a pretty good job but the only advantage over a shopvac is that it squirts the water out of the attachment and you can work the solution around a bit better. I almost got that lil Bissel a while back but got the Hoover for the carpets at home primarily and just picked up a new shopvac today…

I used their stuff at one time. The franchisee`s health failed and closed down
