I know that a lot of people do a Dawn wash prior to applying a fresh application of their favorite protective product, but Dawn doesn`t always get all of the grime off of the finish.



I recently washed my new Tahoe only to find small very small speckles of what appears to be tar all over the leading edge of the hood, front bumper, and grill. I tried to wash it off with Dawn, but that didn`t seem to do it. I haven`t had time to try clay yet.



I`m just wondering what you all feel is a good non-abrasive solution to tough tar/road grime.

Denatured Alcohol works quite well on tar. :up

Clay but it can be expensive since majority of the bar would be throw out once the tar gets into it.



I use Tarminator, it works really well.

I am a huge fan of the Porsche Tequipment product. It has effectively removed all tree sap, tar, bug guts, etc. from my BMW, and it works very effectively & easily.



I sprayed the Porsche "T" stuff on the sap spots, let it sit about 30 seconds to a minute, then rubbed gently with a clean cloth - bye bye sap!



I think this stuff is really overlooked; it`s by far my favorite "miracle" product.

I bet the Porsche stuff is great but it`s a little on the expensive side. Have you ever used Tarminator? Compare it, you never know, you may like it and it`s really inexpensive.

Why clay as a last resort, as far as I know, it is not harmful to your clearcoat nor paint.... correct me if I`m wrong by all means.

A little WD40 on a rag will dissolve that tar and grimes without harming the paint. Wash afterwards with soapy H2O and you are ready to wax/seal.

Every household should have some WD40. :D

Clay last because the tar will ruin a good clay bar and there are tar remover products designed to remove tar and bug skeletons.
