View Full Version : Meguiar`s Quik Interior Detailer Now At ProperAutoCare.com
Today I faced the worse news a detailer could possibly face. The state of New Jersey had declared a drought emergency. Meaning no washing for possibly the rest of the year! :mad:
Shortly after reviewing my packed detailing schedule for the next month, I read the details and quickly learned I dont stand a chance knowing the fine is $5000 for a first violation.
I dont have too many options but, considering the pay day, am bent on accomplishing every last one of my 30 plus detailing jobs. Maybe in a different county or as a last resort, call a friend who owns well water. :nixweiss

Maybe you could get a large water tank and borrow a truck and fill the tank in another county, putting it at your house or somewhere you can bring the cars you need to detail.

Wouldn`t a car wash or detailer be exempt. I don`t think they can keep you from earning a living legally.

Ryan, I feel your pain. I am here in Pa. I have all these great new detailing products that I want to try. I am ready to do some major "rain dancing" in my front yard. :(

Has anyone actually tried this stuff? I can`t believe you don`t have to use a hose to get the dirt off the car first.

I`ve used it a couple of times. ALthough it doesn`t seem to scratch your car, I don`t use it anymore because I don`t feel as if my car is completely clean after using it.
Scottwax professionally details hundreds of cars a year using it.

This may sound implausable, but I can remember when we had the same problem in my home town years ago. Folks use to take a bucket and go find a spot along a lake or river, and hand wash their cars.
I was lucky, we used to park alongside the wall on the barge canal system, tie a rope on the bucket and throw it over the side.
Wasn`t the greatest, what with the hard water, but it kept the old Chevy clean.
I`m sure other folks will come up with good ideas, also. Enjoy!

I know that in PA at least we are still allowed to wash our cars as long as we use a spray nozzle on the hose. By summer if we dont get rain they will stop us from washing cars. It was in the inquirer last week. Check the actual emergency to see if it says individuals cant wash their cars. That 5000 fine is probably for businesses that don`t comply. They use the lions share of water anyway.

How about buying bulk distilled water to wash our cars? No worry about drying out the car completely, no water spots.
However thinking this plan through, it might cost a lot of money.........

Good point, unless the car wash spray bays are closed down I am sure it shouldn`t be a problem, your just earning your living. I think they are talking about people that water thier lawn, fill up their pools or just wash one private owned car....
Today I got a call from a customer with a Black Audi A6 I had done a week ago. He needed it washed. So I took 3 buckets and filled one with zaino wash and water and the other two with clean water. Then proceeded to wash the car using only the 3 buckets and a chenille mitt. Dried with a cotton towel and Z6 it.
