Flex BP "GEWBed" + Some

My M5 was at the dealer for a long list of very minor stuff. While it was there I asked them if there was anything that could be done to improve the appearance of my seat. I wish I had a "before" picture, but basically because it endures a lot of friction due to the way I have to get out of my car, the forward most edge of the side bolster had several areas that were no longer black and smooth, but instead had worn gray and rough-looking. The dealers refer to this as "butt rub" and it is considered normal wear and tear - definitely not covered under warranty.

Anyway, they have a detail guy who can re-dye seats. He basically just spot-treated these areas. What I <strong class=`bbc`>expected[/b] was black instead of gray, which would be an improvement - but that the texture difference would still show. The result is <strong class=`bbc`>much better[/b] than I had hoped for - you cannot detect any repair at all - it looks absolutely as good as new.

I didn`t know they could do that! I`m a happy camper. :)

Cost? $80.

is it the type of leather that makes it succeptible for butt rub or is it the type of butt ;) I don`t have butt rub on my seat, but of course I don`t have much of a butt either :D



what are you doing now to prevent this? what other leather in cars are have this a lot?

I hear those cow print seat covers are popular for preventing butt rub. The matching steering wheel covers are also great for protecting your steering wheel. :up They would look great in a M5:D

To start off I have to give credit to GEWB for being the first to circumsize a flex BP so it could fit 5.5 pads. This got me thinking and inspired me to play around with it.

I have tons of 6.5 pads and just bought tons of 5.5 pads as well. I wanted to have plenty of both for all jobs. This only made sense if I could use 5.5 pads with my flex 3401. Now I have a 5" rotary bp, circumsized flex bp, 6" rotary bp, and a stock flex bp.

I used a GEWBed BP on a car and it cut into the constant pressure backing of the 5.5 pads so I wanted to cut it down even more. i have no contacts to anyone with any special tools so I decided to try my hand at it with my Dremel, the nice part about it was if I screwed up I could just buy a new one for $20. As youll see in the pictures it isnt a perfect circle but it works. Below I have more describing my experience polishing with it.

After I did my work on the BP I put it on the flex and polished some of a car with it. It performed wonderfully! The machine was so smooth and so balanced. I was afraid it not being a perfect circle would throw it off a bit but it didnt at all. I absolutely love it!

Looks like it will work just fine, I have personally taken 6.5 pads (bought when they were on sale) and cut them down to 5.5 size...worked perfect

Thats interresting! Ive only cut pads to hand size for hand polishing.

I would love to see someone with a steadier hand than I perform this operation. I tried to cut mine like GEWB did and mine didnt look so nice.

Ya I wish they just had a stock BP that was 5" instead of having to cut down a larger one.

Ok so today I was polishing my girlfriends car and the flex bp worked wonders! I love it I won`t put on the stock flex bp again (unless I need it but I doubt I will) if anyone on here has a super steady hand ( I don`t lol) I`d love to see them try this and test it out! I will even send out my dremel to them.

I wish I could get ahold of a lathe but I dont know anyone who owns one. Ill tell ya if someone has a lathe and began cutting them down and reselling them I think just about every person with a flex would buy it.

With so many threads about people wanting smaller backing plates for the machine I cant believe FLEX hasnt just started creating them.
