It`s winter and I have some specific questions:
1)can one QD a car after a salty ride, or is the only possible thing to do a complete wash with tons of water to get rid of the salt?
2)What `s in a QD spraybottle?(sprayable wax or something like that?)
3)All the good advice I read here is that for clearcoat ,or bare paint?
Thanks!

1. It`s a judgement call. Use of a quality QD and a quality Microfiber towel is absolutely a must to reduce chances of scratching. However, if there is obvious particulates and debris on the surface it is far safer to flush with water first. It`s just playing the odds.
2. To some degree, yes, it is a light coating that has a great deal on lubricity. Coupled with a MF towel it can safely lift light dirt/dust and leave a coating on the surface. Most all detailers contain polymers and some have the addition of carnuba in them.
3. In most cases what is good for a clearcoat is good for bare paint. The main differences come into play when performing surface repairs like chips, scratches and oxidation.

What Brad said!
I found a QD does work on salt, as long as you let it soak in for a few seconds. Spray a good amount to make sure you are not rubbing any dry salt around. Water and salt is a very bad combination and rubbing around salt with QD may remove your protectant or wax.

Thanks for the responses,
To be on the safe side , I`ll wash and rince the car.Beïng a newbe the risk of using the salt as an abrasive seems a bit to high.
I`ll keep the QD for the summer.
thanks again

Use the Qd when drying if you like some people like too while others don`t.

I think you made a wise decision. Why even bother using a quick detailer and a towel if you can just use running water.
