I went to a industry trade show yesterday and MOBIL was there showing off Rusty Wallace race car. I arrived early and I notice he was doing a quick QD.

I was shocked he was using FI and it looked like a Nicsand MF. We talked for a bit and of course I got some free stuff. It was pretty neat to see amoungst all these large diesel engines and boat stuff but a guy QDing a race car.

BTW many booths gave away free beer!

The husband of one of my coworkers is a Zaino user! haha

Recall that I live in the middle of nowhere ;) but I asked her what her husband uses on the vette. She said it was some special wax and has a lot of little bottles that look cheap. I was like, did they have Z`s on all of them? She`s like that`s it! haha she told me that he gets e-mail from Sal and he`s on the vette board constantly. She`s happy that he surfs that instead of porn :D

The car looks okay ;) :D

Today I began work on a black 1962 Vette, I had no idea what I was getting myself into.

I accepted this detail as a favor for a family friend, before today I had only seen the car once. At night. Where it was still 90% under a cover. The owner assured me that the paint "wasn`t that bad" as it had been repainted only a few years ago, and garaged ever since. I`ll let the pictures tell the story...

I arrived shortly before 8 a.m. and rolled the car out of the garage. The bugs that were baked onto the front of the car were from, as I`m told, "last night while I was getting some gas". Right. If I`ve learned anything so far, is that I shouldn`t take the client`s word for the condition of the car.

Doesn`t look so bad, right? Wrong.

The finish was a grab bag of various paint defects. Serious swirling, deep RIDS, holograms, rough wetsanding marks, fish eyes, drips, orange peel and runs over the ENTIRE vehicle. I found out later that the previous owner did the paint job in his garage, and did a terrible job of it!

What the car really needs is a 2-3 step wetsanding before being buffed out, but the owner didn`t want to spend the money on it, and I wasn`t all that thrilled to do it.

After getting the car inside I brought out the swirl finder.

Then I taped off the hood to begin correction and take a 50/50 shot.

Tomorrow I`ll continue working on it, but I doubt I`ll have it done until sometime next week, it`s towards the bottom of my priorities.

Now that`s my kinda car! Nice job on the 50/50. It looks like it will polish up pretty nice. But you`re right. NEVER take a car-owner`s word for the car`s condition!!!:out:

Looks good so far!:Dancing Dot:

Wow, pretty impressive correction so far CH. Keep pluggin my man but I agree with Bill (and your original post) NEVER take what the customer says as true paint condition.

That`s a beautiful vintage Vette.
