The floormats in my Expedition are a bit grungy. What is a good way to get these as clean as possible. I have simply vacuumed and hosed them down before, and have used a aerosol carpet cleaner also. But I thought I`de ask the pros. The carpet is pretty good but any tips would be appreciated. Going to the store in a few.

I have used Purex laundry liquid on carpet floormats with good results.

I have used a number of over the counter cleaners, but I finally found the diamond in the rough, Rubbing Alcohol.

That`s right, rubbing alcohol diluted with a bit of water. The only thing is that it brings out ALL of the grime in your carpet and floor mats. This means that you will have to commit to cleaning them thuroughly. In the end, you will have a great looking carpet and floor mat set, and they have a very clean smell.

A little bit of elbow grease, a spray bottle, and some old towles, and you are on your way to like new carpets and floor mats.

I`m going to try the Rubbing Alcohol method on a mat or too and if it is a winner I`ll let ya`ll know. The purex method would work good on mats, I`m sure, but you still have to deal with the carpet.

Just be cautious, highly flammable and the opportunity for a static spark, I would do this out in the open with a lot of ventalation.

Spark, Fire, what kind of rubbing alcohol are you using James ;) . In all seriousness, any time you use a heavy chemical, you should do it in a vented area (if the outside is not available).

If you notice above, I did recommend diluting the alcohol with a bit of water. The truth be known, I normally use rubbing alcohol without any water dilution, and I have never had a problem.

I would hope that if a spark was detected, you would stop, but then again, why are there warning labels on the back of Preparation H "do not take internally :D ."

I have a friend who used it on his work truck, which was in very bad shape, and it seriously made the carpet look new. I never let mine get that bad, but for him, that product worked well!!

...before the bad weather hits. We`ve had awesome weather all November here in Buffalo (only 1 or 2 days of rain in the last 2 weeks, been right around 50F too ), but it`s going to get nasty in a few days, and it`s gonna stay that way until Spring. I figured I`d give my car it`s last *enjoyable* Sunday morning bath today.

The car has 60,1xx miles on it, not too many for an 02`. I try to limit my driving to 50-60 miles a week. The thing is a total gas pig, I get ~16 mpg on premium, mostly around town driving. Occasionally I can pull off 18 mpg when going down a hill with the wind in my favor! :D

I detailed it a month ago, polished with Poli-Seal and topped with Collinite 845. Last week, I gave it a final coat of 476s so it will be well protected from the salt and winter grime.

Today, I simply washed it with Optimum Car Wash (great stuff!), cleaned the wheels, tires and wheel wells, and dressed them with Armor All and Hyper Dressing, respectively. Door jambs and engine got their usual clean with ONR, and I gave the interior a quick vac. It might sound like an easy process, but I work so slow it still took me 3 hours!

Got my Blizzaks lookin` nice and black!

As you can see, my car is not swirl free. I figure I`ll go nuts on it in the spring once I get some PDR work done.

I wipe down the engine at pretty much every wash with ONR. It`s not concours winning spotless, but it`s pretty nice for a non garaged daily driver.

No, that isn`t dust or dirt. I don`t dress the engine, so some of the pieces look a bit "dry" with the sun at the angle that it is.

A quick interior pic, I keep it very clean. Weathertech mats to save my carpets from winter`s wrath!

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

That was 3 hours well spent! The car looks great. Winter will take it`s toll, but when spring hits, she`ll look like new again!:clap:

Thanks Bill! I took pictures of the (relatively) clean engine with you in mind, I know how much you appreciate things looking nice under the hood! :cornut:
