I know people have used hi temp paint on calipers and rotor fins and hats. Can you use caliper paint (like foliatec) on the fins and hats of rotors? Thanks in advance.

Yes, you can, but you will get VERY similar results by using a cheap can of caliper paint ($5 vs. $50). You REALLY need to sand the "hat" of rotor well. I also painted the area above the vanes for my Integra. I painted everything silver as to not look to ricey, but to clean up things so they didnt continue to rust.

Also, I have to mention that the paint on the calipers and rotor "hat" (not actually a two piece) is holding up well, but the paint on the vanes of the rotor is pretty much gone. It all came off during a 4 hour track session I had a few weeks after. Not too surprising considering my brakes are VERY hot and I use very abrasive racing brake pads.

I have some pictures at home that I can upload tonight.

Good luck.

I agree with YellOOITR, It will work but Foilatec is very expensive and only brushes on. Spray is much easier and smoother.

Who said anything about spraying?? :)

While I use "spray paint" to do the calipers, I spray it into a cup and brush it on. That way I do not have to mask anything and feel (this may be completely retarded, but it makes me feel better) like I am really "pushing" the paint into the sanded areas better than if I sprayed it on. The biggest reason though is I hate masking and am still afraid of overspray on the car, in the garage, etc.

It`s true, you have to mask EVERYTHING! I even had the whole car covered when I did it and a tarp on the floor. I used a ton of 3M blue tape for small areas. Personally, I feel I get into the crevases and small areas better with spray but I agree that brushing is easily controllable and has no overspray issues.

Maybe the foliatec is expensive but I really like it. I`ve only done 2 cars but I liked the results better with the foliatec over the spray that I used. I don`t remember the spray that I used but the foiatec turned out much better for me. Brushing it on may take it bit longer but what I liked about it was the paint with the hardener added to it, made the paint feel like a good, thick plastic coating was going on. At first you see little paint strokes but as it dries they smooth out to a nice flat finish. With the kit, I did 3 coats on each cal. (probably overkill) and had enough paint to do another car. Now I`m not knocking the sprays out there but in just my experience, the paint quality, feel and general outcome was better with the brush method / foliatec.

I guess I was basically asking if the foliatec paint for calipers can be used for the hat or fins on a rotor (since there is a lot left over)

And the answer is a resounding yes! Make sure to take some pictures to show us!

If you go to vwvortex and click on basic b5 project car, check out the pic of the rotors. (everyone who has a non modded passat should check it out)

They advocate a stage I brembo braking kit: This kit retails for $625 and consists of four new OEM-sized Brembo vented and slotted rotors, Mintex Redbox pads, and stainless steel brake lines to replace the flexible rubber OEM pieces.

I figured if I was going to get these I might as well protect the parts that can be protected.

Thanks for the info.

If you REALLY want to protect them well, get them powdercoated! Much more durable than standard paint and not very expensive.

Ok, I think that we have no same mentalities.

I had no intention by creating this post, supporting I think rather than it is you who wanted to preserve the interests of your boutique.

Goodbye.
