Hey guys do you use Terry towels for drying? or MF towels?

and what towels do you guys use for polishing and buffing?



Is Darra 100% Terry cloth towels any good? really 100%?



and is the MF towels that they sell at walmart any good?

the one that are called like Nicsand, 2 MF towels for like 4.99

When you want to use a towel other than MF, use Fieldcrest Royal Velvet or Charisma. As the towels last a good length of time, I go with the Charisma. Trim the edges and the "band" and, if you mind the loose ends that develope, have them serged (a stitching that inhibites unraveling)or buy them trimmed and serged from a fellow on this site or from Ira: ira@lazaino.com

using the Water Bandit and following close behind with a MT to grab anything left behind. I just bought some Charismas and I don`t know if they aren`t broken yet (if that is even possible) but when I use them behind the WB they just don`t pick up as well as the MT.

I use water blade (just make sure your car is completely clean before using this)

then dry the rest with viper MF towels...

As to drying the car, there is a third alternative -- use a leaf blower. IMHO it is the best. See the two active threads on this site for info.

Ok well I didnt have a ton of time with the car so i didnt get it perfect, but I thought I might as well post up at least a little bit. Heres a little back ground on it:


2001 GMC Jimmy 2 door
--Purchased in 2007 used, of course with 50k miles, current miles 79k
--She has NEVER waxed it :scared:
--Only washed maybe twice a month and maybe every other month in the cold months, which is a third of the year here in Nebraska!
--Parked under a maple tree for first year of owning it
--Paint is in ok shape, but fading in a few spots
--Roof is in horrible shape, feels like sandpaper, same with the hood

I washed it at a local car wash since it was nice out, did NOT use the brush of course. Dried it at the car wash with a microfiber and took it home.

Products used:
--started with a turtle wax clay (light blue in color) it didnt do a thing
--Switched to a heavy cut red clay from a local paint shop, went over the entire vehicle.
--back to the turtle wax clay to go over once again, got rid of all contaminants
--Since I didnt have much time with the vehicle I went straight to my swirl remover.
--Used a 3m product, dark gray in color, its a part of the perfect-it line, removed the swirls and also polished the surface.
--I learned on a rotary and thats all I use. I used a light blue pad, with the dimples (dont know the correct terms :D)
--Then finished with turtle wax, synthetic wax, paste form.

So thats it! For only having the vehicle for 4 hours Id say it isnt to bad. But I still need to work on getting all the swirls out. Also I want to pick up at PC and give that a whirl as well.

Looks good! You don`t see many of those in nice condition. The vast majority of 2 door Jimmy`s are ragged out and beat up. Looks like the original paint is holding up pretty well.

If the paint looks good with the swirl mark remover, keep using it. If you want more correction, consider moving up to something with more bite. Meguiars Ultimate Compound is available in stores and does a good job of removing/reducing serious paint defects. Follow it up with your 3M SMR and you`ll have taken your paint to the next level.

On the tires, you might want to apply dressing with a tire swipe. They are small, square foam applicators available at any auto parts store. Spray the dressing onto the swipe then "paint" the tire, getting the dressing into the sidewall contours and the edge of the tire tread. I usually apply dressing kind of thick, almost slop it on there, to ensure complete coverage, then I go back with the swipe after a few minutes and even out the dressing for a smooth look.

I noticed the side mirrors look a little faded. You might want to try some Mothers Back To Black or Forever Black trim restorer to get them looking new again. That rear trim next to the back window will probably need to be sanded and repainted as it looks like the clearcoat is gone. That`s pretty common with those trim pieces.

The paint looks 100% better then before from your pictures, I would just go with what Bret said on the products to use on it for now maybe next summer maybe get the GMC for a day or a weekend and work on it some more.:clap:

I agree with this 100%. You did a great job on the paint, but the trim takes away from it a bit. If the trim was the deep black that it can be, it would make the paint stand out that much more.
