View Full Version : Extreme Wheel Cleaning
Go to a fabric store and buy a set of `pinking shears`. These cut fabric into a 45 degree zig zag line that prevents fraying. Take a look at the cuffs inside a pair of dress pants and you`ll see what they do.
Buying and then disassembling a $400 serger to serge detail towels ? Man, you are in *way* too deep !

Here is what I found out about pinking shears;
"Pinking shears play a double role. Used to create attractive outer edges as well as their established function of finishing inside seams with ravel-resistant zig-zag edges."
They are not that expensive. I will pick one up and see what happens with those silverose charisma`s, one towel cut with the pinking shears and the another cut simply with regular scissors. I should get my towels sometime next week at which point, let the experiment begin.
The pinking shears will make the towels resist fraying, but not prevent it completely. This happens because there is not single long threads (they make a zig-zag cut) to pull out, leaving the "cross threads" hanging. They are much better than regular cutting, but not nearly as permanent as serging or sewing the edges.
After a while, the "zagged" edges will wear down and the fabric begin to fray. Just cut along the edge again with the shears.

Great test idea. Please make sure to let us know the results. Though, man, I suspect that cutting a Charisma towel with pinking sheers is going to a son of a ````` (given their thickness). Let us know how hard it was. Good luck!

Ira, the Zaino distributor in LA, just serged all my towels. We cut off that "non-terry" strip from the towels, too. I like them much better now.

Good job Nick! If you`re driving around town, just notice now many vehicles you see with "normal" looking rear wheels and black or brown fronts!
I don`t know how they can stand it! The fact is that most of them don`t notice or don`t care!

Smooth face inner barrels are the best, anything with uncoated alu ridges are impossible to clean 100%
Those look immac!

Before I really got educated on detailing/cleaning, I had always thought BMW`s and MB`s came with darker wheels on the front. :D CURSE those dusty brake pads!!

Those wheels are partly why I am glad I no longer have a Mercedes......
