There seems to be a large amount of `grunge` in the window frames, no matter how I clean the glass when I return the windows and lower them again they are covered in a black/green grunge. What is the best way to completely clean the frames.

There is little evidence that the previous owner tried to keep the car clean.

I must also say this is one of the most friendly and helpful groups I have ever seen. It is a pleasure to read some of these threads.

Is the grunge on the glass? Is it coming from the tracks inside the frame?

Have you tried replacing the tracks in the frame? I`m sure an auto glass shop can do this for you.

The tracks are lined with a felt-like material that often can be replaced without too much disassembly. I did this on several VW`s, a Jag and a BMW. Check the dealer or company that sells aftermarket parts for your make and model.

Yeah, usually felt, with a thin metal band that it it attached to. You have to be very careful when installing that you dont bend the piece(s), or they will be useless, look horrible, or leak.
