03 Stang.....No Sweat....

I just got my pc pad set from cma, and am curious. Should i use the wool, of the yellow pad for FI 2. Been using the one that came with the pc. Is wool have a bit more cutting power, I need quite a bit of cutting, as it takes about 4-5 coats of fi 2 to get the scratches mostly eliminated. And one more quickie, do the cma pads hold up better than the pc replacement ones? I`ve gotten about 3/4 of my car done and the pad is kinda ripping, and the outter 1/2 inch is about to go. I`m using it with the speed set to 5-6, so its moving pretty good, thanks in advance for any help, and I`d like to say this board rocks!!

The weather has finally cooled down here in Tampa. After a long hot humid summer it was nice not to have to change my shirt 3 times during the day. This car belongs to a friend of ours. I did his son?s Mazda 3 about a month or so ago and he has wanted me to do his car next. I was on a tight time line so I did not have time to snap a lot of pictures.
I was asked to do a 1 step correction, interior detail, engine detail, headlight correction, and I installed a pair of new halogen headlamps for him. He dropped the car off at around 11 am Saturday morning and asked if he could pick it up that night. My friend is a bit long winded so I did not really get started with the wash down until around noon.

You can see the hood was a mess. I was starting to worry that I was not going to be able to finish in one day.

After a good wash down and drying I pulled it in the garage clayed it and started taping it off. The hood had had been repainted at one time and there were wired issues with the paint. The hood is fiberglass so I could not take any readings with my paint meter. I started with 205 on and orange pad then went to SIP and ended up with 105. I was afraid to start getting to aggressive due to repaint. It looked better but still not perfect. I really did not have the time to play around it too much so I figure I would do the best I could and have him bring the car back another day if he wished. I finished down with 205 an orange pad.


I used my Makita with and orange 5.5 pad with Meg?s 205. I was really happy how well the 205 did on this paint. There were still some RIDS here and there but it removed most of the defects and swirls.

The headlights really came out great. The headlights are super simple to remove so I just pulled them out. I used my PC with a 3 inch orange pad. I stated with 105 and finished with 205 on a with 3 inch white pad. I started with some pressure and eased up on the pressure as I finished. The speed setting I used was on number 3. I sealed them with Collinite 845.

Quick wash down with ONR. The sun was starting to set and the light was not as good as hoped it to be.

Sorry for the low light but I finished off with some Wet Diamond applied with the PC on a gold pad. I allowed it to dry to a haze. Owner arrived a little after 9 pm to pick it up. He was very happy with the results. Now he asked me to detail his wife?s truck next.

Nice job getting the defects out. I just did a coworkers Stang a couple weeks ago. He hadn`t wash it in 8mo because of Deployments etc. Im at Apollo Beach and this weekend was NICE!!!!!! That BFWD is no joke its a excellent product 1st time this weekend on my wifes Envoy. Slick and very glossy.

Nice correction!!! Those were some nasty swirls! Do you know if the headlight lenses were clearcoated?

I`ve found clearcoated lenses are pretty easy to correct... non-cleared lenses are also pretty easy.

But the ones where the clear is half flaked off are TOUGH!!! You have to use a sand paper that has enough cut to remove the rest of the clear, then lighter sandpaper, til you get to 2000, then start polishing. Pain.:cursing:

I not think they had any clear on headlights. The 105 worked like a champ. I did not have to do any sanding.

I know a lot of GM cars have clear on the lenses, also VW`s. If you catch them before the clear fails, then you`re ok.

Wow what a turn-around! Beautiful work. Hard to believe you got it done in just one day with those heavy swirls. You obviously didn`t have time for a coffee break ;-)

Have you ever tried Menzerna Powerfinish? It is a killer 1-step used with a 5.5inch orange pad on the PC with lots of pressure. I find it has a little more correcting ability than M205 and is a huge time saver. Give it a shot sometime. It looks like the M205 did a great job though!

I have been wondering about Powerfinish. The 205 is great but I have found myself wanting more correcting ability. How is the dusting with Powerfinish? Thanks for the tip.

Thanks. I had to cut some corners when my timeline was chopped but the owner was OK with. I told him of course he could bring it back when he had more time.
