Met a friend from Omaha for lunch Thursday. He had been to Daytona for Bike Week and had a great time. 7 of them shipped theit bikes down in an enclosed truck, then they flew down & back. One way to beat the Midwest weather conditions in March.

Anyway, he, his wife, and 3 other couples went out to eat in Omaha Wednesday night. Great time reminiscing about the fun trip. Came out and only three Harleys remained. His was gone. Kind of took the fun out of the evening. He has Progressive Insurance so he is going to get a chance to test their claim handling. He does have replacement cost coverage for the bike itself, but as with most Harley riders, the accessories will probably far exceed the insurance coverage for accessories.

He was supposed to go to a Harley open house last night and wasn`t looking forward to showing up on 4 wheels. Just didn`t seem right.

Theft and vandalism are some the worst crimes committed on a person.

Talk about a sick feeling in the pit of your stomach! Just imagine how that would FEEL when you walked out of that resturant door. Disbelief followed by anguish and extreme anger.

Visions of shotgun murder :bigscream would surely follow.

That sucks. But as a small matter of consulation you can tell him one story of a smooth Progressive claim process. The guy who hit my Acura years again had Progressive Insurance and they paid off promptly with minimal hassle. I had to ask for a rental car since they didn`t include that automatically, otherwise I would say no hassle.

I heard too many horror stories prior to purchasing my bike. I did put a theft deterrant system on there, and feel I`m "safer" with it. I also started getting in the habit of locking the forks which does quite a bit of good. The best extra 4 seconds or less you can spend!

This thread is so old I had forgotten about it.
FWIW, Progressive handled my friends claim fast and fair. They covered replacement cost of the bike and all his accessories.
You can`t ask for more than that.
I`m not sure, but I think the replacement cost coverage is something that is one of those add on features. It was sure worth it for him.

Rainmaker, glad to hear it turned out as well as possible. I think replacement cost is an extra. I`ll ask my s-i-l who is in the insurance business. I`m sure we have it.
