Fast forward to 2:45 on the presentation to get to the Porsche. (http://superbuytires.blogspot.com/2007/08/new-porsche-panamera-and-more.html) I hadn`t heard of the Panamera before, but that thing is just terrible. Personally I thought the SUV was a mistake, but now they are making sedans too??? Where is that barfing smiley when you need him? Sorry, but that is just my opinion of it. It is destroying an icon of automotive history if you ask me. Is Porsche so desperate that they feel the need to break into the sedan market now?

I heard about this quite some time ago and really didn`t think it was that bad of an idea at all. With all of the high powered sports sedans out now, why wouldn`t Porsche want a piece of the pie?

It isn`t a question of whether or not they should get a piece of the pie. The question is why they are even interested in that pie when they are enjoying the entire pie somewhere else? Porsche isn`t a luxury sedan name to me. It doesn`t say `luxury sedan` any more than Kia stands for `performance sports car`. Porsche has their niche that they are very comfortable in. I think trying to expand into the sedan market like this is going to backfire on them. It isn`t a market that a car with a Porsche emblem belongs in. They would be better off creating a new company and badging it as something else. Then again, i`m not in the six figure sedan market, so I suppose my opinion doesn`t necessarily represent the demographic they are trying to reach. Still... as someone who has loved Porsches since I was a small boy, this is just a little sickening to me. Its like looking at a four door Mustang or something. Its just wrong.

While I understand their wanting to expand into other markets, the car I saw there was dreadful looking.

Yuck! What are they thinking? It was supposed to look more like this. Spy Shots: ’09 Porsche Panamera - The Car Connection (http://www.thecarconnection.com/Enthusiasts/Spy_Shots/Spy_Shots_08_Porsche_Panamera.S178.A8314.html)

Not that those images look good, but much better than that vid! They will have their hands full competing with the Aston Martin Rapide Fast-Autos.net - Fast Cars, Cool Cars, Hot Cars at FastAutos.net! (http://www.fast-autos.net/vehicles/Aston_Martin/2006/Rapide/5386) and the other models in that class.

No, but Kia isn`t synonomous for sports anything. In my eyes, Porsche excells in styling, performance, and luxory. Yes, they have been primarily focused on coupes, but companies have to look to expand IMO. What if BMW or Saab didn`t branch out from the aircraft industry? Short and sweet, Porsche embodies excellence. I`m sure that the sedan they put out will be nothing less than that. I can see your point, I just don`t agree with it.

Around the time that they came out with the Cayenne line, I read an article that said that the designers and engineers were outraged that Porsche would even think of making a SUV. "Porsche makes sports cars, not trucks!" Either they came around or were replaced! :D The market forces companies to do a lot of things that they don`t really want to, but you have to if you want to make money.
