I must have used some type of cleaner that it didn`t agree with at some point. Has anyone seen this peeling around the ring before and how can I get rid of this?

Original factory clear is toast. Remove this, polish with an aluminum polish and coat with a good paste wax,

Ok so it is a clear coat. Thanks much. How would you remove that?

I wet sanded mine. Just enough grit to remove the clearcoat. Then worked my way up in grit to polish.
