Just picked it up, of course they "detailed" (swirled) it, so I`ll have to take care of that on my days off, Looks great! Especially with the front plate off. I asked about cure time and they said they did bake the paint, but to give it until Saturday and then I "can do anything I want to it."

Don- Glad you got it back and are pleased with the work. I bet you`r *really* happy with the clean no-plate look, it sure looks great to me.

Per usual, I`d bet anything that they`re wrong about the curing as *NONE* of the mfgr. info I`ve ever seen has said it`d cure that fast, baked or not. It`s not just them, I`ve heard that from most shops and when I showed them the actual BASF/etc. info sheets they`d just shrug and say "nobody ever cared about that before". So I`d err on the side of caution and certainly not use anything not fresh-paint-friendly until you can`t "smell the paint" when it`s been in the sun.

With the body shops that I have worked with, it has been general consensus to wait at least 30 days until polishing can occur on repainted/blended panels as the paint takes much longer to cure than the initial factory paint job. Erring on that side of caution yet to prove me wrong.

Glad you got the car back so quickly!

Don, she`s Beautiful !!!

In the paint and body shops I apprenticed and then painted in, there is a lot going on under that beautiful paintwork..
First, there is the actual body work, a product like bondo, etc., then several coats of primer+sometimes a sealer coat, then sometimes a hardener mixed with base color coat and then clear coat, or a combination of color and clear paint..

That is a LOT of material on there, much more than the robots do on a new car they painted.. Because they are starting with new, perfect, flat, panels with no defects and applying the first ever paint to it..

Whenever I have measured a repaired spot on a Client`s vehicle with my Total Paint Thickness Meter, there is much more total material on that repaired part than the original paint around it..

All this material has to dry from the beginning - the first bottom layer and then up..
If you can smell paint, it is really not completely dry under there..

Can one get away with baking under heat, etc., all those layers enough to buff out the top layer and give it back to you ? Yes, but they know how much they can rub on it with a machine, before it gets too heated up and then causes problems..

Good luck with this !
