Client of mine just picked this up. Nicely spec’d car. Sounds great!
The finish was previously butchered by someone with a rotary and no knowledge what so ever on how to use it.
Holograms everywhere. 4-5 areas of SUPER thin paint (1.5 mils) and almost at the beginning stages of burn through. These areas showed up as ‘light spots’ in the shape of a buffing pad on different areas of the vehicle. Too long dwell time on these areas caused this damage.
I was fortunate enough to be able to ever so carefully correct these areas.

Turned out beautiful! It’s a shame someone did that much damage on a basically new car. Looks like a hack job the Porsche dealership here would do.

If that`s the dealership that did that so called polishing before delivering the car. I would do anything to back out of that deal. And if it where a proffessional detailer that the owner did leave it to and destroyed the paint like that. Then he would almost being able to sue him for damages. I mean that is a damage beyond repairable IMO. What a bummer on a new car to get it in that condition.

You did an awesome job to make it look amazing. If the owner are planning on keeping it for a long time. I would maybe recommend him to install PPF on the low measured paint thickness. There is a sort of a new method that looks very interesting. It`s like a hybrid of clearcoat and PPF and ceramic coating and is called Clarity Coat. I have just seen it on a Youtube video but if it`s working as they shows and no tricks involved. This could be huge in the future. The installer comes from England and he where doing the work in a bodyshop called Color Recon that I think is based in Florida somewhere. Then it`s about what they calls not so expensive and what that is. But people with high valued vehicals maybe see it to be worth to pay for it. At first it looked like impossible that it worked. But when he scratched the paint with lets call it liquid clear PPF. It where the Clarity Coat that took the hit and not the paint. So the Clarity Coat was destroyed but saved the paint to get any damage. It seemed like a snake oil but if it`s true as in the damage it can handle then it`s very impresive. The sad part is that the application of the Clarity Coat seems to be needed to be done in a paint booth. Can be worth looking into at least and especially what it would cost to get it LOL. Like SWETM mentioned. I think this is one place where PPF might be a real consideration. Shame to have something that new and that valuable and feel like you have to be looking over your shoulder every time you detail it.

Thanks everyone, appreciate the comments. I don`t know for certain who did the damage. I am just happy that I was able to correct it.

Client did not see it upon purchase. It was difficult to see in certain light. Scangrips and my other lights `picked it out` immediately. He was not a happy camper to say the least, however he is much happier now.

Thanks Tony, will watch that later and see what it is all about!

GearHead: Indeed. He asked what it meant, and I told him that he would have to tread very lightly on this vehicle, for he is considering keeping it for a long time.

Absolutely Beautiful Work !!!

I was so sick to see the thickness reading - 1.5Mil = 38.1 Microns..
Have to wonder if any UV protection is still on those areas..

If it was my vehicle, I would be going back to whoever took all the paint off and telling them to call their Insurance Company because I am calling mine..

Yes, Anything to cover those areas that has UV in it will definitely help the paint to last longer. but don`t you think that intense Florida sun is going to hurt those places sooner than later ?

This is why I had a 1-million dollar liability policy for my Shop in WA... Even though I never had a claim on it, it was good to know it would cover me if something bad happened out there..

Two aspect of detailing that jump out at me:
1) The need for PROPER training and experience using a rotary buffer. It is disheartening to me on such a high-end vehicle as this Porsche what damage a novice with a rotary can inflict. I suppose it like comparing a surgical knife in the hands of a butcher or a highly trained and skilled surgeon; the end results speak for themselves. I notice in many of the reviews that you post I do not see a rotary buffer mentioned in your detailing product and equipment list. That is not to say or imply that a rotary is "bad" tool. I assume you just choose not to use one.
2) The need for a paint thickness gauge (PTG). You could have easily burned through some of those "rotary-thinned" areas. I do think, though, that your trained eye with the aid of proper LED lighting has identified damaged and thinned areas, BUT until you actually measure it with a good PTG, you REALLY do not know how thin is thin. In this case, a PTG is not a luxury detailing tool; it is an absolute necessity.

Nice workmanship on this Porsche. It is nice to see such vehicles during the winter up here in the "Frozen Tundra of Lambeau Field", although it was warm enough on Christmas Day that someone took their HD motorcycle out for a ride! (Christmas present? Pretty obvious by the sound it was a HD)

On a side note: how is the rainy weather in Florida your affecting your detailing? Here in Northeastern Wisconsin we have been literally flooded out with warmer temps, rains, and melting snow, AND record high-water levels on Green Bay and Lake Michigan. Every time the winds blow from the northeast or east, someone gets flooded out along those shores! We did have a "White Christmas" but is was not from snow; that melted. It was 40°F with dense fog!

PTG: Exactly, it is a must have in my opinion. My results could have been devastating, both for myself as well as my client.

I don`t use a rotary much.

This is not our rainy season now. We`ve had a decently `wet` winter so far, but it`s been very good. Summer is our rainy season where it rains EVERY day. Thankfully it really hasn`t affected biz that much, I am usually much busier in `season` (winter), however, over the past few years it`s been the same year round.
