2019 Tesla Model S - A Miracle Detailing - CQuartz Finest Reserve (https://www.autopia.org/forums/click-brag-the-detailers-showcase/190684-2019-tesla-model-miracle-detailing-cquartz-finest-reserve.html)

A side note: although it was a "new car" it was totally covered in DISO.
DISO was noticed on the entire vehicle after the prep-wash was done.
This was not "right off the truck". I had been on the lot 3 months.

Paint Thickness: This was all over the board. I personally measure in microns.
This gives me larger numbers to deal with and I find the reference preferable.
On the hood alone I found large differences (within a foot) of 20 microns.

After a few different "test spots" (Tesla paints can be finicky)
This is the combo I used on this paint.

Correction:
Rupes 21 with a 5" backing plate and Meguiars microfiber cutting disc.
Megs M101 in combo with Scholl`s S2

Polishing:
Rupes 21 with a 5" backing plate and Rupes Yellow finishing foam pad.
Megs M210

Glass:
Panoramic roof, back glass, windows, and windshield coated (top of the car)
Carpro Fly-by-FORTE

Last Step Product (LSP):
Cquartz Finest Reserve (https://cqfinest.com/services/cquartz-finest-reserve/) ceramic coating

Very nice job and amazing reflections. I have a 2018 Tesla scheduled for a ceramic coating in a couple of weeks. I can`t wait to get my hands on it!

Here`s my process on this vehicle.
What color is it?

This one was a bit on the finicky side but, it was better than many Tesla`s I`ve done in the past. Maybe Tesla is getting better at painting?

Tesla black IMHO is the new worst. I used to feel that Lexus Obsidian Black (I called it obscene black) was the softest, most finicky paint.
Then along came Tesla black! The Model S comes in black (included), Silver Metallic, Deep Blue Metallic, Pearl White and Red Multi-Coat.
Each paint color (above from left to right) is a cost upgrade with Red Multi-Coat the highest price. IMHO Each upgrade is better to work with.

Compounding...
Knowing what I have encountered in the past I was reluctant to use a Meguiars microfiber disc. It had too much cut and left micro-marring.
When I began doing "test spots" I stared with a medium compound and a medium foam pad. This worked ok but didn`t remove all the defects.

I slowly worked with different pads and products until I found the right combo for this paint. I was truly surprised at the combo that worked.
I will say If you have not tried Scholl`s S2, S3 and S30+ you are missing out on some of the best compounds and polishes on the market.

Polishing...
I had heard that the new Meguiars Meguiar`s M210 Ultra Pro Finishing Polish worked well on Tesla paint. So I gave it a try...
Things learned...In the past, I have use Megs M205 and Lake Country Thin Foamed Wool Pads for correction (Yes, M205 has cut).
Meguiars M210 has much less cut than M205. IMHO, it is only a finishing polish. However, I feel it needs a firmer pad to function.

I noticed when Megs demo`ed M210 they used a DA Foam Polishing Disc - DFP5. This is medium density foam and works it well with M210.
So, in this case, rather than go with a Carpro gloss pad (a favorite finishing pad of mine) I went with the Rupes Yellow Polishing Foam Pad.
This Meguiars M210 / Rupes Yellow pad combo worked very well on this particular paint. * I`ve used M210/Yellow foam combo on other paints.

I don`t know if you are able to get it in the US. But Scholl S1 Black SS is one heavy cut compound that is extreme. For the neglected harder clearcoats like BMW and MB and VW. The new Shock2cut I have not heard much about but would be in the range of compound to light compound. Any experience with these Scholl compounds.

I like Scholl`s compounds/polishes.

I have not seen Scholl`s S1 Black SS.

I have seen S0 but have not used it.
Cut: 8/8
Gloss: 0/8
Grit: p1000
I have used S2 and I like the cut and it`s pretty much dust free.
Cut: 7/8 - Extra Heavy
Gloss: 5/8
I also have used S3 and I like the cut and the finish it leaves.
Cut: 6.5/8
Gloss: 6.5/8
In many cases, I`ll follow with Scholl Concepts S30+ (for DA)
Cut: 3/8 Light-Medium
Gloss: 7.5/8 - High
or Scholl Concepts S40 Ultra-Finishing Polish (primarily rotary)
Cut: 2/8 - Fine
Gloss: 8/8 - Extreme
Abrasive: p7500

Yeah I have Scholl S3 Gold XXL compound and Scholl S20 Black SS. S3 Gold XXL is like a notch better than Menzerna HC400. The S20 I don`t know what to compare to LOL. Maybe a medium cut polish with a high finishing ability and an awesome one step even on quite heavy defects. S2 claims to be like S20 in finishing ability if it`s the Black Signature Series version and not Orange. With claimed 30% more cut than S20. It`s strange with the S1 Black SS as I don`t see it much of outside Scandinavia. Could be it was some kind of test of the product here. It`s a heavy cut compound for hard clearcoats. The S0 is a liquid form of sand paper and is actually not advised to be used with a polisher but by hand LOL. They do some inventive products for sure Scholl. Have some other products from them that is awesome.

User friendly and nice to work with is a little signature from them. Nice to see them get liked over the pond too :)
