So this car belongs to a local racer and car guy. A while back he was dealt a devastating blow when he went in for back surgery and came out paralyzed from the waste down. There is some hope for recovery. Being the car guy and racer he is he wasn`t going to let that stand in his way. The chassis shop that did a lot of the work on the car custom made a awesome hand control setup for him so he can still race. And after some practice he was able to get back in and get his NHRA license passes completed.

He runs a local race series called New England No Time which is a heads up 1/8 mile race and as the name suggests no times are shown. With World of Wheels Boston approaching the promoter of the race series is setting up a booth there and they held a poll to vote for one of the racers to be on display at the show. It just so happens Matt`s car won. When I found out this was happening I decided to reach out to the promoter to offer my services to the winner of the vote so the car would be in top shape on display. In exchange he will be racing with my Final Inspection Stickers on the car for the season. And once the show is over the car is getting loaded up and heading down to Memphis TN along with other local Boston racers to race JJ tha Boss and the Memphis Street Outlaws for the T.V. show. Which is pretty cool as there`s a chance my work will be on T.V. lol.

Onto the detail. Before having the car in the shop the owner arranged to have the body shop come and wet sand the car to remove the orange peel. I kinda cringed because I just knew what I was in store for when it arrived and it didn`t disappoint to say the least. The sanding and polishing came out pretty nice but a huge mess was left behind.

Thanks Justin for sharing. I love hearing stories where people don`t let physical deficits put a limit on what they can do.

Nice job on the detailing. Love that color too.

Justins00ss:
How DO you clean so much left-over sanding grit from crevasses and the like?? Are you using brushes, pressure washer, or ALOT of microfiber towels?

Also, is Goo-Gone the most eco-safe way to removing racing tire rubber from panel surfaces? I`ve used just regular gasoline in the past and followed with a vehicle-safe degreaser (IE some thing that will not bloom/whiten aluminum). I have used acetone as well, but that is not very eco-safe, nor is the gasoline. I thought that there is a car-care product out there specifically designed to remove racing tire rubber "safely" from vehicle paint, but I do not know/remember who makes it.

For the left over compound residue just a ton of McKee wax remover and igl precoat with different brushes.

Mothers makes R3 racing rubber remover which is so so. The goo gone works better by far.

Wipe on a little cooking spray before you go to the track and it will clean off easy.
