Bit of an update. Gave some of the new Overcoat V2.1 a try. Slickness and ease of dry application are much improved. Seems to have a bit more initial gloss and sharpness while still not being overly shallow and reflective...still a warmer but now somewhat amped up glow.

Applied dry I sometimes ended up with some streaking previously but new version is more mindless in application, along the lines of PA Cosmic Spritz.

Used Eagle Edgeless 350 medium nap towel(s), a spritz or 2 on one to apply to panel, 2nd to give a bit of a final buff. Easy on, easy off..very little product used.

Fortunately it`s gonna rain for the next 3 days so I`ll be able to see if it maintains or improves on the original version as far as self cleaning and water behavior goes.

The improved attributes are very nice but if self-cleaning and entertaining water behavior are decreased, gonna have to start hoarding the original. Time will tell...

A note about perceived improved appearance. It`s always hard to say, really, and in this case I`m basing it off of what I saw today immediately before/after application.

Car itself has had a hard year, including the 6 or so months since I gave it a seriously good wash last Spring.

Hoping to get as clean of a slate as I could after using PA Cosmic Spritz all summer, car was prepped by:

1. Run through touchless wash (I know, lazy guy move but maybe high pH of commercial soap helped strip some stuff off)

2. Hose car down with Gyeon Iron, let dwell a bit.

3. Rinse w pressure washer, flood rinse with hose

4. Gyeon Foam at 1:5, pressure rinse, flood rinse.

5. Bucket wash with Gyeon Bathe, flood rinse, dry with PFM

6. Hose down car with Gyeon Tar, work in a bit with Gyeon Silk Mitt. Pressure rinse, flood rinse.

7. Gyeon Foam at 1:5, pressure rinse, flood rinse.

8. Bucket wash with Gyeon Bathe, flood rinse, dry with PFM.

9. Apply Overcoat to dry surface, something that was always a challenge for me (streaking on black cars)

Nothing exceeds like excess, I guess. Was probably just wasting time, money and product...oh well.

Hopefully it maintains the great attributes of the original with the added improvements.

Thanks for the info. I didn’t see it at Esoteric. Did you buy direct?

Thanks for the info. I didn’t see it at Esoteric. Did you buy direct?Ordered from across the pond, UK vendor.

Dunno if Esoteric got; see Zipang back in stock, maybe new Overcoat came with it.

Saw a spot or 2 with a bit of haze on it a few hours later, easily removed. Too much, too little, not completely buffed off...dunno but it came off fine and easier to deal with than streaking. FWIW.

Thanks Budget. How does the price compare to V 1?

Thanks Budget. How does the price compare to V 1?Seems to be the same but since I ordered from UK, not apples to apples. UK vendor pricing is generally a touch higher.

100ml is $50 when previously ordered from Esoteric.

Great information, as always! Thanks for being so helpful - you’re a hell of an enabler!

Question - how can you tell it’s 2.1 via just the bottle? I just bought my second Overcoat last week from Esoteric, and the bottle is absolutely different.

New bottle is on left with tape on it - Silver top instead of black, flashy label.

Budget had posted a photo over in the unboxing thread. The label does indicate version 2.1...

I wonder if we could get a group buy on Overcoat? I saw that Zipang was back in stock. I couldn’t pull the trigger, yet. It will be out of stock when I decide to buy. Lol

All, if any of you live in Australia you can get Overcoat 2.1 from https://detailcentral.com.au/kamikaze-over-coat-v2-1/
Taking into consideration exchange rate, it would be about 50 USD plus shipping.

Cheers

Got a chance to run around in light rain/misty conditions yesterday.

Seems that water clears a bit quicker when underway than previous version.

Noticed a couple of small beads of vivid green bug guts moving up and off the hood after striking some kinda bugs on highway yesterday...that was a new one for me.

In light rain this morning, vertical stripes of water/falling water on sides of car are an interesting look.

The gloss/slickness seemed to peak a bit earlier than the 24 or so hours it took previous version to `firm up`; didn`t notice much change with V2 after initial 12-14hrs.

Gloss and slickness definately improved over previous version. The word `thicker` keeps popping into my head when pondering the difference in appearance with regards to gloss between this and original. It seems to be a more `hi def` gloss as well, reflections *seem* a bit more defined.

As far as the spots where I noticed a haze a few hours after application, wiping it off with dry microfiber removed it...and about an hour later it was back. Went over those areas with a bit more V2.1, buffed off and haze returned in an hour or so. Went over those spots with a damp microfiber a few hours later and haze removed for good.

Dunno...will watch this going forward when I use on other 2 cars, maybe this weekend. Minor inconvenience but would like to know why/how that happened.

Misty kinda rain this morning:
