Went with my mom to buy her a 1950 Chevy 3100 this past weekend! From a purely Autopian standpoint, it needs a repaint (which it will eventually get!) but it`s pretty cool looking as-is! It moves pretty good too, it`s got a sbc 350, front disc brakes, and an auto transmission. We`ve got a lot of big plans for it, should be a pretty fun project!

Love the style and color. Very cool:)

Im guessing the paint was made to look aged?

Not my style, but I would drive it as is and not worry about swirls.

Thanks, guys!

LEDetailng, you are correct the previous owner painted and then scuffed it up to give it the faux patina and "shop truck" look. Not my thing either but still dang cool to drive around just like it is.

I will certainly keep y`all up to date on the progress!

Here are the high priority items we have planned for it:

New mirrors for the doors
Fix the passenger window (I rolled it down and it fell off its track or something)
New correct taillights. Not only are the existing one`s trailer lights (I`m pretty sure), they are super dim. Not very safe!
Dash gauges! There are some after-market gauges for oil pressure, coolant temp, rpm, and battery voltage but the speedo doesn`t work so we are going to get some new dash gauges put in and ditch the aftermarkets.
A/C, it is, after all, Texas.

Medium priority items include:

Weatherstripping for the doors
Headliner
Bumpers
Windshield Wipers

And then our longer-term goals/projects are:

Finishing out the interior completely
Exhaust (I`m leaning Cherry Bomb glasspack but probably gonna go Magnaflow)
Repaint! My mom bought the truck sort of as advertising for her landscape business so eventually, she`ll have it repainted, get all the dings out etc. Color is probably going to be a dark green with cream accents and I`m working on a 50s style logo for the doors.

And I wrote all of this down here and published it on the internet so you guys can hold me to it!

Love the truck. Those are definitely trailer lights. The lights were mounted up higher, on the same line with the lower portion of the tailgate. The mirrors were actually mounted on the cowl on those trucks. Stick with the Magnaflow or some other low-drone exhaust...you`ll be glad you did. The glasspacks will get on your nerves eventually. Before you go through a repaint, consider wrapping it. You could get more creative with your design probably.

That will make a great rolling billboard for your mom’s landscaping company. Look forward to seeing the logo you come up with. Get to work:)

Thought I`d give you guys a quick update.

Mom took the truck up to a custom shop. She decided to go ahead and upgrade to power steering (the rack and pinion had a few issues), A/C going in (which we definitely need here in Dallas), and they are putting in new stock gauges in the dash so we can know how fast we are going (really excited about that). They are also doing a few other small things, moving the shifter to the column, chasing down leaks and the sort.

And for anyone thinking, well they could have done the A/C themselves or some of that other stuff.... Yea, your right, but it would be December at best before it gone done if we went that route.

Anyway, should be ready in another week or so, I`ll post pics when we pick it up!

Cool truck but even cooler Mom!

My thoughts exactly! Thanks for sharing this FIDOAG14! And I sure don`t blame you folks for taking it to a shop and just getting it done.

Very Cool truck. I would find a sign guy to paint an "aged" logo for you mom`s company on the doors to match the existing paint and the shoot the whole truck with a few coats of clear. Patina like that is priceless. Update everything else as you planned. Power steering and some disc brakes along with the AC would be tops on the list.

Yep, it`s got disk brakes and a new rear (soon to be front) suspension.

The plan is to paint the truck dark green and I`m currently trying to figure out how we want to do her logo on the doors, definitely a handpainted logo, I think it probably needs to be one color as well. I have come up with a few options so far but now we are thinking a hand holding some dirt with flowers growing would be pretty cool (and way harder to paint!). I`d be more inclined to convince her to clear coat the patina as-is if it was original, but the previous owner did that intentionally so I`m not keen on keeping it that way.

The right two utilize part of the existing logo. Personally I like the middle one the best, I think its a really cool blend of retro and modern.
