sorry I am not sure why some of the pics are posting sideways...

The owner admitted to being a frequent tunnel wash user and even said he had a membership (which he later said he was going to cancel and I hope he does). Car had 26k miles of one owner tunnel washing. I hope your dinner stays put as you see these before shots.

I inspected the vehicle and it looked pretty bad but after the decontamination it revealed to be even worse than I thought. This was the third pitch black mopar I`ve done and easily the most annoying clear coat to work with of them all. I wasn`t going for all the deep RIDS but all three different pitch black mopars have required all different approaches. To be honest I kind of accept the challenge but after doing this job I think my one new years resolution is going to be to head out to a junk jard an find a decent panel or two and teach myself to wet sand even if its not going all out, but its a skill I have been wanting to learn.

As far as the polishing I used The Last Cut on urofiber for the most part short of one panel where I used rupes blue cutting mf disc.
After numerous approaches even with different compounds and finishing polishes I settled on this:
one very long and slow pass with The Last Cut on urofiber pad with my duetto
followed that up with another pass of The Last Cut on my rupes yellow pad with my lhr 21 mk2
Finally I went with PA Primer on rupes yellow pad on lhr 21 mk2 - this was a fine finishing step, if used twice after the compounding stage on the yellow pad and I treid a few other pads and it wasn`t going to work so for the sake of cost I tried finishing off the haze with the same compound and a lighter pad and it worked to almost lsp ready. It probably would have been for most non Autopian people but since I have these sunmatch lights now I can see too much over my previous setup of just the store bought LED lights I went with what I went with.

I ended up waiting more than 9 hours after my first few panels so I had to use primer spritz which works ridiculously well as far as flashing.

Two layers of cosmic v2 with cosmic spritz at the end to shorten cure time. No toppers.
pa diver on glass

pa diver on trim- worked pretty good even on the wiper trim. I was going to use Engine but I was satisfied. Sadly I did it after the pics as I was fighting the sun or lack thereof most of the afternoon and working on other areas of the vehicle like the rims.
wheels: pretty nice wheels, they were pretty marred so I brought out my dinosour (PB Wheel Sealant) and then later on topped that with supersport
bold n bright gel on tires

exhaust tips: 0000 steel wool and sonax chrome cleaner/protectant

door jams: rw then sprayed with rupes p808 sealant (door jams is pretty much where I peruse my sprays shelf in order to bring out an old friend)

I probably missed/forgot something but I counted up 25 hours working on this car. That seems about accurate but it felt like the entire 46 hours that it was with me.
Vidoes will be posted as well.

Excellent work! I don’t know what those ```````s use for black paint but is just as crazy to deal with as a black Honda S2000! And I own a black challenger that is the same way, you think it looks perfect until the scangrip tells the truth!

I washed my car the same day I got my sunmatch recently and later that night I added essence+ to all my panels that have csl+exo as the exo was mocromarred and I ended up polishing out my hood and coating it because it was the only non coated panel on my car and it looked like a nightmare to my eyes. Probably detail quality to non Autopians :).

Brandt - should have shot in the fog from today for most folks, never would have known how bad it really was B) Another home run and for not being a Mopar fan, those are sweet looking.

Awesome work and write up!

That clearcoat certainly seems to be finicky. But the outcome is beutieful and the reflection is outstanding.

How do you like The Last Cut?

Here`s results on the roof (the least damaged panel of them all but still a scary sight) after a cut and finish pass with the last cut on urofiber, then rupes yellow with the last cut only and the final pic is after pa primer on white pad https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171219/daa157ebe3f89f98d894bda04a94232f.jpgbeforehttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171219/8b8faeca521d3880012421473106399c.jpgafter compoundinghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171219/21099856f59315551ac5be3f76fa530e.jpgfinished with same compound different pad

Great work Brandt! Do you have a rotary? You mentioned wet sanding, a rotary with llambs wool pads and a good compound will level stuff like that pretty quickly.

Also I wouldn`t have felt comfortable chasing those..I went from 120 to 114 on a lot of these panels and the rids were still obvious, I`d think to level that I`d be around under 110 easy..that`s not where I wanted to leave a 26k mile car that the owner wants to keep forever..especially if he ends up back at the tunnels

But I have considered a rotary.
