I have a 2015 Hyundai Sonata 2.0 in Phantom Black. A few months back I did a full detail on it and it`s holding up nicely but I wanted to give it a good paint coating before winter hits.

I ordered a Mckee`s Paint Coating kit that comes with the new Sio2 wash, Xtreme Iron remover and the coating itself. I also picked up their prep polish as well.

So I will do a wash, iron remover, clay bar it, do a few spot touch ups, then do the prep polish followed by the coating. I also got some Hydro Blue to top over the coating once it fully cures. Does that sound like a solid plan?

I also have 3M Clear Bra installed on the front and some other spots. Can the coating be applied to that as well? What about the chrome trim? I`ve never used/done any coatings before and I want to make sure I do it all right. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks!

Sounds like a solid plan. You don`t have to use hydro blue right away. I would think using it monthly would be good enough maintenance.

You can coat over any of the surfaces you mentioned.

I would recommend using the iron remover prior to washing it. This way you won`t dilute the product. I believe Nick mentioned in the video for it that it can be used in the sun. Other than that you are good to go.

I am excited to try it out. So with this coating, I wouldn`t use a glaze like PB Black Hole, right? Just prep the paint and apply the coating?

Nope, no glaze...coatings like bare paint; no wax, no glaze no polish residue...squeaky clean is the way to go.

Exactly, in fact you`ll need to use something to strip those oils and other things left behind by a polish.

I am going to use the McKee`s Coating Prep Polish McKee`s 37 Coating Prep Polish (http://www.autopia-carcare.com/coating-prep-polish.html#.Wbholk2Wyzk)

Would I just use a white pad to apply this?

Lake Country white polishing pad would be fine.

For machine application, set the polisher to medium speed and apply a nickle-sized amount to a foam polishing pad. Thoroughly work the product into the surface and remove residue with a microfiber towel.

Cool. I have white hex-logic pads from CG, so I am guessing they are similar.

I got it all finished up today. Perfect weather for it too. A nice breezy 75°F. I did all the prep work first of course. I washed with Mckee`s Sio2 wash, decontaminated with their Xtreme Iron Remover, clayed, and then did some touch up polishing to remove some marring and swirls. Then used Mckee`s Coating Prep Polish to get the paint nice and clean. Finally on to the last step. It was very easy. It applied very smoothly, you can easily see where you`ve applied it to and make sure you have adequate coverage on each panel.

It buffed out easily as well. No problems with high spots or streaking at all. Now it`s out there curing and then after a few days I will hit it with the Hydro Blue Sio2 coating.

The paint coating itself gives a very nice glossy look to the car. I read other people saying it has a bit of a darkening effect on their paint. I could tell this too when doing a 50/50 on a panel. Since my car is Phantom Black, the added darkness makes it look even deeper and rich. I can see why people with light colored cars may not want to use this coating.

They claim 2 years worth of protection with proper care and optimal conditions. I am guessing by refreshing the coating with Hydro Blue it might last a year, I would really be amazed to see 2 years of full protection. For the money and ease of use though, it seems to be a good product.

Looks great!

Your gonna love coatings; now your black car will stay cleaner for more than 5 minutes after washing. You`ll get at least a good 20 minutes now...unless the neighbor decides to blow leaves.

Looks great.

I don`t think you need hydro blue so soon. I would wait a few weeks before using it.

Is a QD like Poorboy`s or CG V7 ok to use to remove water spotting?

Looks fantastic! As some point you may want to try their new Trademark extender spray wax. Perfect to maintain the coating and use as a drying aid.

BTW You are going to love Hydro Blue!

Is a spray wax like this the best thing to use over a ceramic coating? Is it an SiO2 product?
