Last night at our monthly Tower Of The Americas car show I was saught out by a new member to diagnose a remedy for this sad sight on her brand new yellow 392 charger daytona

beautiful vehicle, but she said some spiteful person tossed something on her car recently

this is literally the best pic I could capture at 10pm with my crappy cell phone

allow me to describe it first as the pic is hard to make out...

it looks like someone slung superglue down the doors right below the windows and its a thin line across with drips coming down, BUT I say it looks like its superglue but for the life of me I could not establish that it was actually on top of the paint or if it had etched into the paint and was slightly raising the paint

all I had on me was claybar which did nothing and I tried to pick at it gently with owners permission and a plastic razor blade wrapped inside a thin micro but it didn`t feel like it was just gonna peel off if you will

she said it was also on the glass but she used goo gone and it removed it but e method did not work on the paint

owner even said she used a vinegar mixture, and even some acetone-gasp!

look for the vertical streaks, they look kind of white

added a filter and i think it makes it easier to reference the lines

I have your standard set of tar removers, apcs, etc but this just didn`t look like it was gonna come off, it looked like it raised the yellow paint more than it was on top of the yellow paint, to me at least.

I would try abrasion before chemicals, it`s probably safer to get a read on the depths and polish. Atleast if you do that you`ll know whether or not it`s actually stained the clear.

good point

if it stained the clear and I polish, am I risking removing the clear over the paint or would it take sanding?

I was afraid to polish it for fear of making it worse, in my mind I just saw that paint coming off.

I would not touch without having this conversation first

We don`t know what was done. I can try to fix starting with the least aggressive methods but the only option may be a repaint. I`d get that signed before I crank up the buffer.

I doubt that, the amount you would need to remove to burn through is a lot. I`d do a small test spot with either the mini or the nano, cut it with pure polish (No oils or fillers) and then finish up with a pure polish like reflect. Either way you should take a depth reading on the paint before you start, if it`s below 85 microns I wouldn`t touch it.

JSF is correct, you need to get permission first... in writing (Cover your A$$).

My point is this, if you polish a section and nothing is removed then it`s stained and needs to be repainted regardless. You can`t polish out a stain unless it`s single stage and even then it`s risky. The abrasion is there for you to verify it`s stain all the way down and not just topical.

Brandt - you could also try (after getting permission) prep sol since the Goo Gone took it off the windows.. just a thought

I personally would go straight to laquer thinner on a microfiber towel. I have personally used it many many times to rid the surface of tar glue paint etc. Mineral spirits may work but might not be strong enough.

I know people gasp at the thought of thinner and think the paint will rub right off instantly but it won`t. Now if you leave a soaked rag on the surface for a bit then you will have some issues.

Anyway just my thoughts as to how I would proceed.

I wonder if it is clear nail polish. I second the thinner

Not paint thinner but laquer thinner. Just any small can from lowes or home depot will be fine.

the acetone may have actually made it worse ...

I would NEVER, I did say NEVER start with an abrasive

Chemical Polish like Pro Polish is a starting point ... APC full strength could also be an alternative first try

If the acetone did any of the damage , repaint is the only remedy
