Just curious if there are any die hard CG followers in this forum. So far I`ve noticed not a lot of talk about their products here and when there is talk of CG it seems to not be in the highest regard. A friend of mine turned me on to the CG line. From using some of their products vs the OTC has been what`s peaked my interest in detailing and actually learning the art of it. By no means am I "branded" to using exclusively one brand. Just currently using CG products.

I started off with CG products as well. They`re VERY good at marketing. The videos are easy to find on youtube and transition from topic to topic very well. BUT, the more I read on other forums and asked questions (questions that were either unanswered or just plain wrong on their forum) I started trying other products. When I did, there was just no comparison. The have some good products (mostly soaps and V7 is good QD, EZ Creme Glaze and Blackhole) but that`s about it. Quality-wise, their products fall short especially when you figure in cost.

That`s the consensus. They have some good products but a lot of mediocre at best products with a lot of hype. They are great at marketing them and offer pretty much everything so it makes it easy as a 1 stop shop....if you can decide on a product when most in the same category sound an awful lot alike. They dont make their own products as I understand it, so it stands to reason there are better or at least as good in every detailing need cheaper and more user friendly. It`s truly a rabbit hole once you start trying new products. Good luck. Just my $.02 but if you want to try to stick with 1 brand for most of everything you need while being user friendly and at a great price checkout Poorboys World. All of their polishes and lsps are capable of being used in the sun and all deliver on their promises. Lots of great brands and all the information you need right here. Welcome!

There are only perhaps 3 things at the most I will ever think about purchasing from those people..
A lot of their zillions of items are just junk..
It would take eons to wade through all their annoying videos...

There are much better products from people that have been making them for more than a few decades and then a whole lot of newer people that are making really great products as well..

Much easier to figure out other vendors here, than as BSkip333 said so well - "going down that rabbit hole"... :)

I haven`t used anything of theirs yet. And I don`t really want to. The products are over priced. I am slowly gravitating to Meg`s detailer line. Absolutely no hype involved and each so far delivers and is cost effective. Also each gallon will go through many details and bring in lots of money before you have to buy more. I think all if CG are too much and after a few details you have to keep buying more. In the long run you just don`t get your money`s worth out of them.

CG was the very first product I ever bought in bulk (gallon size). Funny thing is I still have all 6 gallons sitting on my shelf never being used. There are just far better products offered by other companies.

Something else that rubbed me wrong was when I tried to buy Citrus Wash and Clear. They ended up sending me Matte Wash instead. I kindly called and said my order was wrong and they preceded to tell me, "well, it`s pretty much the same thing". In other words... it is the same thing. What I should of asked is, "What else is the same as the other products you have?"

I`ve heard that their products suck at best. Never tried any except some hex logic pads....horrible quality for everyday use. Fall apart quickly. Never had a problem with LC or B&S

Hi- I`ve been trying CG products too. In some of these other posts, people are not mentioning who or what they`re using. Also, when using initials for these companies, who are they? LC and B&S. New to these products and would like to review other sites and products.
Thanks!

Hi Glenn, Welcome to Autopia.

To answer your questions:
LC = Lake Country
B&S = Buff & Shine

Both are pad manufacturers.

I started off using CG stuff too. Some of their items are good and some are not so good, just like many other manufacturers. I like V07 and many of their interior fragrances and soaps. They have some decent waxes as well (Petes 53, CG 50/50). Stay away from their Lava wax. I contacted them about Lava and the advice was to stir it up and see what happens, it turned into orange cottage cheese. I told them what happened and got no response. Their customer service is nonexistent and that is my biggest complaint.

I won`t watch their vids. I get worried that the model/dance for "Mr. Pink" would be something nightmares are made of..........

One of the biggest issues with Chemical Guys is the hype...or `over hype`...as it were.....they tend to try and `sell` their stuff...rather than let it sell itself. If they pared down the number of products they sell, focused on quality and effectiveness rather than salesmanship, they would get a better rap. There`s good and bad to be found in any product line, and people tend to focus on the bad in the CG lineup.

I use VRP as my go-to tire dressing...really like the foam applicators they sell, too. Their All in One polish/sealant gave me good results, using HexLogic Quantum (orange) pads. Is HD Speed better?....will know soon enough...just ordered a 22 oz bottle from Autopia. Also use their Butter Wet Wax, and it delivers as promised. Although I`ve not used it yet, Petes 53 gets good reviews too.

Like most guys, my shelf includes multiple product lines...Meguiars, CG, Griots Garage, 3D (soon), Mothers, Kenotek, etc.
