Hi all, i`m new to autopia. I am a fourth generation car fanatic, so safe to say its in my blood, I grew up helping my dad and granddad restore old cars. My first vehicle was a 1950 Chevrolet truck that my granddad left me when he passed away. My dream car is a 1968 Coronet. I currently have a 1964 Ford Galaxie 500, and a 2006 srt8 Chrysler 300. I am the shop foreman for a trucking company, and love diesels just much as hot rods. I have been painting/polishing paint for as long as I can remember, but was always afraid to get away from the old tried and true methods I learned growing up. I recently purchased a new truck for my wife and after talking with 512detail I decided to take it to him to apply a sealant and help protect the paint better than the over the counter stuff I was used to. He was very informative, and answered all my questions. Needless to say I was amazed with not having to use 7 different compounds/swirl removers and 5 different wool pads to achieve awesome results. I look forward to learning and appreciate all the useful information this forum has to offer.

Dieselwrench -

Welcome, happy you are here..
Glad you made contact with our kid - Brandt, of 512 Detail...
He`s just a young pup, but he has learned a lot and have proven himself with some really challenging work.. You are in very good company with him..

I also came from the "learned this as a little kid" point of view... And I also remember the dozens of wool, wool blend, etc., pads that we used along with the good old 3M rocks in the bottle compounds, etc..

But boy, after a little cornstarch at the end with the finest pad, it was like liquid glass and deep as the sky is blue, right ???
Hard to beat acrylic lacquer -right? :)

Well, now it been a whole new game for a few decades, but you are at a great Forum, run by even greater guys and gals, and the people who frequent this place are absolutely incredibly well adjusted and talented...

As we say in Texas... Howdy!

I know you already know the basics but I found this was a great place to start, especially the acronym decoder.
