This vehicle belongs to my neighbour. I`m going to be doing 3 cars for him over the next 3 weeks. I have done this van twice in the past, the last time being 2 years ago when I coated it with Americoat. It did not hold up as well as the CQuartz products (and originally Opti Coat) that I have done for him in the past, so this time it was getting coated with CQuartz (original).

Here it is as it arrived:

The front end not only had these scratches, but the clear was peeling in a few places too. It had been repainted in the past...maybe not well.

This is his winter vehicle, hence the Blizzaks on it. It is being put away once I am done with it.

Another 2 places (that had been painted) where the clear coat was peeling:

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t12/rhowitt/Detailing%20shots/Detailing%20shots001/Detailing%20shots001001/DSC_1614.jpg (http://s156.photobucket.com/user/rhowitt/media/Detailing%20shots/Detailing%20shots001/Detailing%20shots001001/DSC_1614.jpg.html)

I did not do anything to the front bumper and I suggested he get it repainted due to the badly peeling clear on it. I`ll coat it after at some point.

The starting point as always was the wheels. The tires were cleaned with Zep 505 and the wells were cleaned with LATA. The barrels were initially done with Tarminator, followed by Zep Citrus. The faces were cleaned with a combo of Zep Citrus and Megs HW. The barrels were shot with Aqua Bead.

The van was then washed using Megs HW followed by a decontamination wash of IronX paste. It was then brought inside and was clayed with a clay towel.

The paint was treated to a 2 stage process with the first step being M100 with a black wool TB pad using my 3401 followed by M205 using a CarPro Gloss Pad. The touch ups were done including those few areas with chipping clear. At least (hopefully) that will stop that from happening if it has a coating over it. The headlights and tail lights were given the same 2 step process.

The paint, head lights, tail lights, wheels and all glass except for the windshield were given 2 coats of CQ original. The tires were shot with OptiBond via my air gun and then leveled. The trim was done with DLux.

Here it is all done:

Nice job Richie! Who makes Aericoat? And, did you have to do a wipe-down after the 205?

Thank you for the feedback and for taking the time to make it!

Thanks! I just do an ONR wipe down prior to coating. I work the Hell out of 205, so I`m not worried about oils or anything on the surface.

Just perfect work, Richy !
Bet it looks just stunning in the sun - very deep because of the clarity and gloss you gave it..

20 hrs sounds about right for perfection.. :)
Thanks for all that hard work, especially the 3401VRG workout you got.. :)

Sorry, I forgot to answer your question about Americoat. It`s made my Americana, which is Barry Theal`s company. He`s not selling anymore as he has partnered up with the guy from Ceramic Pro.

1. How do you like CQuartz?
2. How would you compare CQuartz to CQUK? Looks?

Thank you,

That a lot of black paint. Your a strong man and a good neighbor.

Nice write up detail. Thanks

Can you upload your pics to photo bucket from your phone? I have not been able to for some time and as a result my write ups are suffering. I need to figure it out or find another host.

Thanks

Jeff

Thank you,
Thanks bud! To be honest, I don`t like UK at all. I like how strong it is and how it looks, but to me, it`s a huge PITA compared to regular CQ or other coatings. There`s simply too much choice to put up with it. I know it has fans, but I`m not one. This new version of CQ is easy to use and looks great. I`m glad I made the decision to carry it as a mid level coating.

Thanks very much Jeff! I have uploaded pics to PB previously on my phone using their app, but I don`t do that for my details. I just do that for silly pics I get from the internet or whatnot. I shoot my cars with my Nikon and then those shots get downloaded to my computer where I blur the plates before uploading them to PB from my computer. I`m at 80% of my capacity, so I`ve got to decide whether I`m going to go back and delete a lot of old ones. Hmmmmm...decisions.
