I live in NY outside NYC in the Burbs.

I plan on taking off in 2 Fridays and want to surprise the family with a little driving trip.

It will be my wife and my 17 year old son. I`d like there to be something for everyone.

I would like to keep it around a 5 hour one way drive max.

So lets here it, what do you suggest.

Wife, Like shopping (yuck), culture, seeing my son happy,

Son-Sports, Cars, Music and outdoor adventure

Camping or anything close is out as the wife won`t go and will insist I take my son alone. I want this to be a fun weekend.

Ideas I have-Not to crazy about any of them....so what Ideas do you have?

-NYC for the weekend, stay in the city-perhaps a show, nice dinner one night, interesting place off the beaten path one night. Some sight of the city, museums, south street seaport, Chelsea piers.

-Boston - aquarium, Faneuil hall, great nightlife-I went to school there so I know my way around.

-Inner harbor-MD-Not sure what there but I hear its nice.

-Rhode Island-Newport-besides Mansions and Fudge what else is there?

CT-Casino-Anything else?

AC-Casinos-Anything else?

Inner harbor is a nice place and you might even get there in time for opening day at Camden Yards ... food is great .. Aquarium is cool if you are into it .. the old ships ..so so

There is shopping and you can go say good bye to the Obamas down the road apiece lol

Tail of the dragon is great but it`s way more then 5 hrs.

Could always hop on a plane and go to the bahamas, that`s only 3 hrs :D

Well I had one in mind but it`s looking more of an 8 hour drive . (You should check though).
Me in NJ would be a bit further.
I worked with a guy last year who traveled all over the world and states. He had many suggestiins for me since im not much of a vacationer .
He suggested Acadia National Park.
Take a look at some photos of that area.
It`s on my list. My kinda relaxing.

The inner harbor is excellent! And a new casino is nearby. Lots of security around tourists spots. Plus you can stop and see me! I`m 25 minutes from there.

I don`t even know, how far is DC from you?

Otherwise, I think Boston or Philly would be a good weekend trip. See some history, shop, enjoy a restaurant or two and take plenty of great family pics in either place.

Got home and presented some choices. After some googling we are leaning toward Boston. Found a show called sheer madness and blue man group that I think would be fun. Fanuel hall, Nesbury street, aquarium, duck tour, Harvard square , Cambridge.

Now I`ll look for a hotel deal and we will ice it.

Love Fanuel Hall, great seafood. I couldn`t even remember the name of the joint but it was a whole hall on the second floor of a building. Everyone ate shoulder to shoulder on long tables. Probably doesn`t even exist anymore. One of my favorite cities to visit. I could spend a half day just looking at all the old cemeteries. So much history you can`t help but bump into it.

If you like Italian food make sure you eat in the north end one night.
