A co-worker`s son`s new car. Got it a couple of weeks ago. In reasonably good nick except for slight tunnel wash marring. And with the paint being as hard as it was, not sure how that was even possible.

The usual pre-coating decon: CG CW + OPC > Carpro IronX Snow Foam > CG CWC > SM Arnold Speedy Prep Towel + Nanoskin Glide. Even made a video. ;) http://www.autopia.org/forums/washing-drying-and-claying/183981-mike-washes-car.html

Polishing was with most of my polishers + B&S Finishing MF Pad + RUPES Zephir.
Primer was Carpro Essence.
LSP was Pinnacle Black Label Diamond Paint Coating (and Surface Coating, where appropriate) - machine applied :o with PCxp + LC Red Pad.

Afters

And, if you guessed there would be another @#$% video, you`d be correct.

Mike,

Noob ? for you...

You mentioned the paint being on the hard side, and in another post that your DD is a Sonata.

In your experience, has Hyundai paint been generally on the hard side consistently? I have a `15 Elantra with the dark silver paint, and am trying to get some "qualitative" general information to file away for later.

Thanks in advance - Nick

Hi Nick.

Yes, in general, Hyundai paint is very hard. My DD post from 4 years ago: http://www.autopia.org/forums/the-detailers-showcase/38029-dd-opti-coated.html?highlight= Had to use a pretty stout combo just to get it to enhance the gloss appreciably. Can`t recall a soft one yet but you should always assume so and work your way up in a test spot first.

Thanks Mike.

Helpful info, and duly noted about the test spot.

The inspiration came from Garry Dean again

Back in the day, I did this with Wolf`s Hard Body. I like the idea of working it into the paint matrix. Also had fewer highspots to clean up later.

Now, I am not as frantic as Garry (generally a true statement in most ways) - so picture a slower, more anal version of this. I did a section at a time with my PCxp + Red Pad on 3. Pretty much the same as if I were machine applying wax or a sealant. And Pinnacle Black Label Diamond Paint Coating is a joy to work with.

Definitely appreciated Garry reminding me of this. I think the result spoke for itself.

Oh, and the plan is, once I figure out some technical stuff, to use my GG BOSS G10 pneumatic to do this part. Its easy one-handed operation will lend itself perfectly to this (coating in the other hand).

Very interesting indeed, i have a PC+Red Pad + DP Paint Coat which comes in a spray form, may give applying it like this a shot. Did you have to toss your red pad in the trash after use?

I got a 3" jiggle machine (pc), so I may try it with that.

I am somewhat worried about making sure good coverage, and wonder how fast the pad dries out. So of course I`ll end up using 3x more than I should.

im going to give this a shot with my duetto on the hood of my truck tomorrow (unless i happen to have some other coating in my mystery box)

im with you ron, I will probably use too much for this method but there`s only one way to find out :)
