I lucked into this opportunity as a coworker of mine has a cousin that runs a local Camaro club. Got the contact info, he and I start talking, and within a few days I get a phone call from someone needing a detail. Can`t beat that, right?

I speak to this gentleman over the phone, and he wants just a nice wash and wax, and an interior wipe over and dress. He normally details his car but just wants a break from it. Works for me.

This car is a daily driver but is obviously very well taken care of. I`m not sure why he felt the need to pay me to perform a basic service, but I was happy to get the job.

While the car was in very good condition, there was some light wash induced swirling and marring. Hopefully, I`ll get the chance to polish all of those out one of these days. This time, just a wash and wax.

The wheels were in pretty good shape, but benefitted from a good scrub down with Wolfgang Uber wheel cleaner and a speedmaster and getting into the nooks and crannies with a 1" brush, and getting at the calipers and rotors a bit. If you haven`t tried the Wolfgang Uber, it`s great stuff. Almost as good as Sonax in my limited experience, and can be had for a lot less when you buy a large jug on sale. The exhaust tips were pretty cruddy but I scrubbed those clean then polished them with an exhaust polishing sponge and some metal polish I picked up at Oreily`s. I finished the tires of with Stoner`s tarminator.

As for the car itself, I sprayed it down with OPC while I cleaned the wheels and exhaust. After rinsing the car off, I then applied Sonax Fallout remover. There wasn`t much turning purple, which didn`t surprise me. I felt the car on arrival, and the paint was pretty smooth. The owner and I had talked decon and claying over the phone. He said he`d had it clayed a few months ago, but wasn`t opposed to paying me to do it if I felt it necessary. Didn`t seem like it was, which I told him. Only purple from the FO remover was the front quarter panel behind the wheels.

I washed the rest of the car with CG Citrus wash and a microfiber mitt. The convertible top was in great shape, but I gave it a quick once over with the 303 cleaner, and then followed up with the protectant once the car was dried off. After this, I dressed the tires with Meguiar`s Endurance gel, and all exterior trim and cowl with Mothers B2B, since I had it on hand.

At this point, I also washed his wife`s Jeep and gave it a quick exterior trim and tire dressing. It received no further attention since he wasn`t particularly interested in making his wife`s jeep look great, and time was getting tight.

The interior was also pretty immaculate. I gave the front footwells a quick vacuum, a quick spray down of OPC and wipe of the dash, trim and seats. Dressed everything up with 303. I somehow forgot to bring Stoner`s glass cleaner. Fortunately, I had some UWW mixed at QD strength. Between that and a TRC ww glass towel, I was able to get the glass to a satisfactory condition.

Once the car was in the garage, I inspected the paint a bit more for swirls and such.

So, the owner just wanted a wash and wax. Time wouldn`t allow for an actual polish, or even a proper AIO. But, I really really wanted to make an impression, and parlay this job into more jobs. So, I took a calculated risk. The owner expected a machine applied wax, as he mentioned he didn`t have a buffer "to do it right." So, I had the Rupes 15 and 21, and the PE14 on hand. I had the hydrotech blue pads with me, and opted to do the HD Speed with the rotary with no more than 2-3 passes at 900rpm. I basically treated it like I was applying a wax, and just easily working the the wax into the paint. I wouldn`t get the full effect of HD Speed, but I`d get a little more than I would from simply applying a wax. This didn`t correct much, but it did seem to lessen the impact of the bit of swirling I saw. As far as he knows, he got a wash and wax, and it didn`t really take me any extra effort. Seemed like it was worth the try.

I`m missing a couple pictures I know I took... of the interior and also before and after on the exhaust tips. Bogus!

Anyway, I texted the Camaro club guy this morning mentioning I did the detail. I was given admin privileges to the Facebook group to promote my detailing! This could be a huge boost, and I`m extremely excited about it. Just gotta plug along and do some of these wash and wax jobs and hope it leads to some correction opportunities!

Thanks for looking!

Great job cleaning it up especially considering how hard the paint can be on these.
