This one had tons of real estate to work on and being lifted was good and bad. Most of the paint was at standing or sitting height but top portion and hood were worked on by standing on work platforms. Love the results from what we got out of the paint, still lots more of minor detailing to come on this truck.

Wash - CG Citrus wash
Wheels - Meguiars DUBS
Tire clean - LA Totally Awesome APC
Decon - Nanoskin fine mitt w/ CG clay lube
Polish - HD Polish w/ orange 5.5 b&s pad, PC on speed 6
LSP - BF wet ice over fire combo, Griots 3in w/ griots 4in red pad
Glass - Ceriglass and RainX
Tire dressing - OptiBond w/ Preval sprayer

This truck is far from being done perfectly but our main focus was the paint. I was 80% happy with the results, it still had minor scratches and defects that could not be removed with what time frame we had. The glass on both driver and passenger front were heavily scratches and could not be removed, he said those will be replaced.

Unbelievable how dirty it was

Lets start on the wheels and tires, it was starting to drizzle a bit at the start and I rushed through cleaning the tires thoroughly and I regretted it when I had to apply dressing

After wheels and tires, I attempted to remove the scratches out of the both front glasses but failed. The windows all around did have hard water spots so those were hit with Ceriglass

Vehicle was washed with 2BM and results in the rinse bucket were horrible

Vehicle was put inside the shop for decon. This vehicle sits at the chemical plant quite a bit and im guessing the fall out from the plant caused the paint to be HORRIBLE, especially the hood. (turn your volume up for video)

I did not get to perform this truck in my garage due to its size so I had to bring some of my supplies with me. I did not bring enough polishes and compound and I sort of regret it. I first tried CG v38 on a green pad and results were not even close. I chose HD Polish w/ a white first and got near perfect results but decided to step up to orange pad and got even better results with the same finish. I did attempt to go harder with a compound but it did not finish w/o marring and I did not want to do a 2 step on this giant beast.

One of the main deep scratches on the truck. We suspect it was keyed but being a repaint, the clear was pretty hard and kept most of the damage off. Easily polished 90% of it off.

About 8 hours worth of polishing were done, also tried using griots 3inch to polish. That was a huge mistake that costed me time due to it not removing any swirls at all. I went back and forced my PC into semi tight areas but the really tight areas were hit with the griots 3in very very slowly for it to work, even at that point it only removed 50% worth...

All polishing was done and BF wet diamond was applied, hazed for 20 mins then removed.

The vehicle slept inside the shop and it was roughly 55 degrees the entire night inside. After 12 hours of cure time, the truck was brought out the next morning for a quick pic (I wanted to see how sharp BF wet diamond made it look).

I let the wet diamond cure for about a hour or so more that morning while I dressed the tires with OptiBond. I noticed the dressing did not stick very well and that was probably due to poor cleaning. I dressed the tires 3 times, used 2 and half oz and on the 3rd dressing I sprayed the tires and did not wipe it in.

Applied BF Midnight Sun, removed all the tape and moved outside to create whiplash.

Just Beautiful, Don !
What a change from the Before to After pics... Wow...

There are smaller backing plates for D/A`s and any D/A will have more guts forever than that Griot`s 3" thing, as you know...

Regarding the glass, you tried CarPro CeriGlass and could not improve on the glass ? What pads were you using ?

Love the color, love the results !!

Thanks for all that hard work and then for all the work to take pics, edit them, upload them and post them up !

Great job. Some time the rubber compound that the tire was made of doesn`t work with the tire dressing. Still looks great tho.

When I upgrade from the PC, i think the PC will be the perm. 3 incher

Ceriglass didnt remove the heavy scratches (which i knew) but it did remove all the hard water spots. Kind of tough reaching the edges and corners, may have to do that by hand. Griots glass pad

What a monster! Nice work man. Love that blue paint :)

Ford never made a blue truck that year, he took a Chevy color and enhanced it some

To get glass better in my experiences, you need a rotary and press down on it.. I dont use high speed here either because I dont think it will help except to perhaps warp the glass because of the heat..

And Safety glass has that plastic piece between the 2 panes, so you dont want to wreck that either with too much heat..

A long time ago, before the majority of you guys were here and Todd Helme was just a lad ( :) ), I think he did a post on how to get glass clear again..

Don`t know if it`s still around, it was on that other website -Classic Motoring - I believe, or was it the one before that one?

And sometime way back then, someone - (was it Mike Phillips?) did a post using Meguiars105 to take out defects in glass...

This compound - even though many complain about it - really has a lot of versatility and can do about anything, if one is willing to take the time to get to really know it, and understand how it likes to be treated..

Good reading if these can be found...

Or, get some Rhodite from Eastwood... Be careful - it`s probably pretty toxic, but it really works also...

Where did you hear or read that?

Glass doesn`t begin to deform until it reaches 580 C, which is over 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit.

I am Pretty sure that the film on modern windshields is actually on the inside of the glass, not sandwiched between layers. It is designed to protect the occupant by reducing shatter and providing a smooth surface for your face to slam into.
