For this review I’m going to share my first experience using HD Speed as part of my daily driver’s winter prep.

(*Spoiler Alert* I love this stuff!!!)

From 3D’s copy for HD Speed;

HD Speed polishes and protects the painted surface in one easy and simple step. Removes light to moderate surface scratches and swirl marks. This remarkable product restores color, depth, and gloss while adding a long lasting wax to the surface. Its exceptional open time allows longer polishing and waxing period, and less product use. Product works best when applied in a shaded area but is sun friendly when used correctly. Great for those who want quick, minor paint correction with protection.

In full disclosure: when I started my winter prep process using HD Speed was not what I had in mind. My plan was to try out another new polish I had just picked up but after a few passes with it, I was shocked to see a ton of haze appear. Crap! After changing my approach/ switching aggressiveness of pads/ amount of applied pressure/ arm speed - NOTHING was working.

Now typically I’ll use M205 on black CCS pad w/ my 3401 (speed 5) on my Honda’s soft black paint with perfect results. But I was fresh out of M205, the day was slipping by, and with it my window to get this done before the wife came home. Double Crap!!

Time for a miracle!! (enter HD Speed)

Check out what using a primed white CCS pad + 3401 @ speed 5 + a few drops of HD Speed did to the marring haze on my hood:

HD Speed to the rescue! I wish I had taken the time to take a before and after photo of my face because I had the biggest $h!t eating grin from ear to ear when I finally had my approach dialed in thanks to HD Speed.

I quickly tackle the rest of the vehicle with ease. Here’s a 50/50 on my trunk lid:

Additional Observations

HD Speed is interesting product and w/ a small learning curve. Unlike a lot of other polishes that need you make an X w/ product to first prime the pad, doing so with HD Speed will result in your pad quickly become caked with too-much product. By only using a few dime size drops of HD Speed, you’ll get amazing results. Plus once you’re done HD Speed also wipes off with total ease with ZERO dusting! You can work it over a huge section before you need to remove it!!

Given HD Speed has a sealant built in, I was curious to see if my pads had become hydrophobic and if I`d have to reserve them for Speed use only. To test this, I grabbed the pinkest (FYI: HD Speed stains) pad of the 5 used, and ran the pad under water to see if it would repel liquid:

http://i1295.photobucket.com/albums/b637/Double0Angus/HD%20Speed/61A72759-493D-4A7F-B2D9-A0FD31E37D02_zpsgtqvwa4k.jpg (http://s1295.photobucket.com/user/Double0Angus/media/HD%20Speed/61A72759-493D-4A7F-B2D9-A0FD31E37D02_zpsgtqvwa4k.jpg.html)

Nope! Totally fine and not hydrophobic at all! Unlike my pads reserved for WDGPS 3.0, water did not immediately bead up and roll off the pads surface.

http://i1295.photobucket.com/albums/b637/Double0Angus/HD%20Speed/3527C284-C81C-4D1F-AB65-E65F1AEE8B83_zps8i47dlls.jpg (http://s1295.photobucket.com/user/Double0Angus/media/HD%20Speed/3527C284-C81C-4D1F-AB65-E65F1AEE8B83_zps8i47dlls.jpg.html)

Now mind you, after each panel I toss used pads into a solution of DP Pad Rejuvenator and soak them for 15-20 minutes in order to clean out spent product. Had I not done this, then perhaps the results of my non-scientific test would have been different.

So other then a few new HD Speed pink stained pads, I don`t see any reason not to keep using these pads for various polishing projects.

http://i1295.photobucket.com/albums/b637/Double0Angus/HD%20Speed/4B6CA5BB-0D09-4946-8A70-68834BB9229B_zpsbs3ndny4.jpg (http://s1295.photobucket.com/user/Double0Angus/media/HD%20Speed/4B6CA5BB-0D09-4946-8A70-68834BB9229B_zpsbs3ndny4.jpg.html)

The only odd thing i did notice was the dark reside that had formed on the edges of my pad after I was done a panel:

http://i1295.photobucket.com/albums/b637/Double0Angus/HD%20Speed/B0D3B59C-2A4A-4F1C-85D8-D0C33BCAFFB8_zpsjivdj7er.jpg (http://s1295.photobucket.com/user/Double0Angus/media/HD%20Speed/B0D3B59C-2A4A-4F1C-85D8-D0C33BCAFFB8_zpsjivdj7er.jpg.html)

The only place this didn`t happen was after doing the bumpers. Not sure if it was paint transfer, old wax coming off, or what but I`ve never seen that before. It easily washed out of the pad, and the paint looks great so I don`t think it was the start of clear coat failure. Who knows. Well, on second thought - I`m sure you guys have an idea or two!

Lastly I`d like the give David Fermani, Ben@3D, and the whole 3D/HD crew a special thanks and apology for my taking so long to review this awesome product. I picked HD Speed as part of the Autopia giveaway they did earlier this year. Sorry guys!! But you`ve made a huge fan out me. HD Speed is now my go-to AIO product :) I can`t wait to use it again.

As always, thanks for reading. I hope this review was helpful :)

I LOVE HD Speed, has been my go to AIO since trying it the first time and like i`ve stated before, it has even given me better results than using M205 by itself . You can just let it haze on the paint as you`re doing the rest of the car and still wipes off easily.

NICE !!!

So the whole car was done with a white pad? No step down?? COOL

What was the other that gave you not so stellar results? (haze)

HD speed is an awesome product. I`ve had great results with it for paid details for coworkers and for doing my family`s cars. great stuff. Cuts amazingly well and finishes out flawlessly with a blue HT pad.

I absolutely love HD Speed. It is so easy to use and the results are just stellar. If I was doing more detailing on the side I would be buying this stuff by the gallon. I really don`t care about the durability cause I end up topping it anyway but the amount of correction, the minimal dust, and the ease of wiping it off make it a winner for me.

Thank Ron!

Yes sir!! I did the whole car only using white pads. Nothing else. So. Dang. Easy!!!!

I purposely decided to keep this one close to chest for now. In retrospect I can`t say for 100% certainty if the haze was a direct result of user error or product. I need to spend a little more time playing around with it to 100% sure. If it does turn out to be the product, I`ll share what it is.

Totally man! Half way through I realized the same thing - the cure time is crazy long allowing you to do a huge amount of work before you need to stop of wipe it off. I love it.

So. Very. Awesome. After the hood alone I was about to run in a buy a bunch more Speed since 3d/HD products were 35% off for Cyber Monday - but then I realized how little I needed to do a whole car! I`ve easily got 75% left in the 16oz bottle :)

Whenever I have time to do more correction work for family and friends - it will be done with HD Speed.

I 100% agree with you Pat!! I`m still smiling over how easy it is to use and how GREAT my DD looks now. :)

haha i was on the same boat during the 35% sale, i was about to load up on HD Speed but realized how little product i have to use per vehicle,so i got HD Polish instead to complete my HD Cut/Polish combo and try those out next. Work time is crazy good, during working it the first time my inner voice went "is this ever going to dry out???" while i had a big dumb smile on my face from joy.

Did you experience any dusting at all?
I used it just once, had great results but some dust.
I hadn`t gone back and refined my technique yet.

Nope, none. Do you remember how you applied it? Was it hot out?

What are you guys topping Speed with?

Since this was part of my winter prep and I topped Speed with Blackfire Crystal Seal. Ezypzy.

White LC pad. I`m trying it again in the spring. I agree it was me not the Speed though.
