Hi All, Just got a 2016 GTI and would like some suggestions on paint protection after all we dont get a chance with brand new paint often. Have washed it once with BF shampoo and 2 bucket method. I was thinking maybe taking it to a pro as I am 71 now and have never been into mechanical buffers etc...elbow grease method for me. Thanks for any input

Perhaps we can keep it in the family and get you local pro who can coat you up and give you the Autopia finish and maybe even a price break.

Who is local to Pasadena?

If you want no fuss, a coating is definitely the way to go.

Ultima makes a wipe on and walk away(no buffing) paint sealant that is supposed to be very good, as well. Something like that would be a good option as well, if you want to keep cost minimal.

I agree with Jeff and say you get a surface coating on their asap. It`s the best protection you can get to make maintenance easier.

I helped someone with a similar car put together a kit to apply a coating on their vehicle: 2012 VW GTI Detail - Album on Imgur (http://imgur.com/a/6Mu2N)

I am not familiar with California, but how far are you from the bay area? You can contact Joe (Jsmooth) here OCDetaling | 925-457-4703 (http://www.bayareadetails.com). Joe is a great detailer and has been here for some time.

Got ya Dan. I figured someone with more knowledge of the area would chime in. GUZ is very knowledgeable and is a great detailer as well. Maybe he will chime in for the OP.

Pasadena Ca is a major city a few miles from LA and yet I see little or no detail and mod shops. I might scout out LA but hard to find a legit shop. Thanks for the responses though.

Thanks for the praise guys. I`m by the Torrance area which is about 30 miles from Pasadena. To the OP I do this on the side as an enthusiast. PM me if you need someone to help you out.

Whatever you`ve done with the mk1, just keep doing with the mk7 it would appear you will be just fine.

A coating would be a very good option though.

Here`s a link to the Opticoat Pro + website: Opti-Coat Pro Plus Ceramic Clear Coating (http://opti-coat.net/content/63/opti-coat_pro_plus_ceramic_clear_coating.html) with information regarding Opticoat Pro+ and a tab to locate approved dealers/installers. Perhaps you can find someone in your area.

I`m a big fan of Ultima Paint Guard Plus- one of my favorites sealants since it`s so quick and easy.

Thanks to all for the feedback! While there are no Opti-coat dealers here in Pasadena there are 6-7 within 20 miles. Not many mention prices as I`m sure its dependent on the paint condition but one of the shops quoted the prices for " paint already in excellent condition " . For Opti Coat Pro Price starts at $695 For Opti Coat Pro PLUS Price is $995 After reading the description of what it does it is very impressive! I think a couple of the dealers have a mobile service, do you think this product can yield the same results applied at my residence as at the shop? Once again thanks all for the help!
