I was hoping a few of the vets here and those experienced in coating prep could take a look over this and make sure my plan is correct. I feel good about it, but just want to be sure. I will be coating my 2014 Honda Accord with PBL v2. I used it once, on my mom`s car back in August. The heat made it finicky, and flashed ultra fast so I`m waiting a couple more weeks for some cooler weather.

Not pictured: I`ll be using my 3401 to polish.

I just polished it 3 months ago using WG UC and WG FG with tangerine pads and then white CCS pads. The paint looks nice as it is, but since I`m coating I obviously want to maximize gloss since I won`t be able to polish again for at least a year. That said, I don`t want and certainly don`t need to go very aggressive at all with this.

Obviously, the first step will be to 2BM wash(w/ DG 901), then decon with Sonax Fallout cleaner and then nanoskin. Then wash again.

1st polishing step will be HD Polish with 5.5" white CCS pads. Fairly gentle product with a minimal cut polishing pad. I plan to polish on no higher than speed 4 with the 3401, probably 3-4 passes per section with only about the weight of the machine. I figure this will improve paint condition without being too aggressive. Make sense?
EDIT: the thin pillar panels and such will not get this step, since it doesn`t seem necessary and paint is usually thin there.

2nd step in polishing will be Wolfgang Finishing Glaze with Gold 5.5" CCS jeweling pad. Softest pad available, which I`ll use at a likely speed 2, again 3-4 passes but with minimal pressure. The goal of this step is to maximize gloss and make the paint appear as glassy as possible. Again, does this make sense?

PBL surface cleansing polish- I plan to do 2 applications of this to the vehicle, to ensure the paint is as clean as possible(I`ve read that 2 apps give better result than just 1). I`ll use the crimson hydro tech pads for this, since this pad gives no cut and this is an abrasive free paint cleaning polish.

At this point, do I need to do an IPA wipe? The directions for the surface cleansing polish says the paint is ready for coating after application of SCP, but I know an IPA wipe is standard practice. Probably can`t hurt, right?

Obviously, the final step is to apply the PBL. The goal is to do this on my two days off. I`ll get up early the 1st day, do the entire process but just the 1st application of SCP. On the 2nd morning, I`ll do the 2nd application and IPA wipe, then apply the coating. Since there are multiple uses in one bottle, I will reapply 24hrs apart- doing a UWW wipe down and a IPA wipe- until the bottle is empty.

How does this plan of action sound? Anything missing? Anything I need to rethink? Thanks for the input, and yes I will post pics in the click and brag once its done.

If you don`t mind using more sonax I would spray the fallout cleaner first, dwell, foam if you have a gun/cannon, or just rinse after dwell time and start washing. Otherwise I would wash, dry, fallout cleaner (spread, rinse and dry), clay and go straight to polishing. I never wash after clay unless I am using a foam gun for claying and then I guess technically I am washing again. As for the IPA wipe down I know pinnacle says go straight to coating since they were made to work together but I will let someone else who has used it before chime in.

It will be a 2 bucket wash.

Yeah I know washing again after claying isn`t entirely necessary. But I`ll do that- fallout, wash, nano then polish. It`ll save a little time I think.

Do you mean apply as many coats of the coating as possible? I usually just do a thick first coat and that`s all.

Yes. The plan is to layer it for a thick hard candy look and maximal protection.

My quick version.

Wash
Decon. Nano skin only if it needs it. Depending since you just polished 3 months ago
Polish with HD polish. Skip the WG Finishing glaze. Same basic step as HD Polish.
PBL paint prep stuff
Coat. I just did my car and did a first heavier coat then came back 24hr later with a second.

A good thing to remember with v2 paint coating is that you should only do 3-4 cars from a bottle. So you really need to try and apply it heavy. I applied it and then almost immediately buffed any high spots and I was good to go.

Kind of sounds like you`re proposed process is laid out for a car that has noticeable issues. As this was done only 3 months ago do you need that many polishing steps?

Thats kind of why I put this together and am asking.

Troy- why HD over FG? And if I go to just one polishing step(which I`d love since it means less time), which pad and product combo would be best? Since it doesn`t need much, wouldn`t the WGFG and the jeweling pads make the most sense?

Personlly I really like HD polish. It has a decent cut while finishing done perfectly for me. It finished so well I got rid of my Menz 85rd polish which was the ultimate ultra gloss finishing polish. From my use the WGFG is a little more oily in its makeup so while it works great it is a little harder to remove all the polishing oils. So in this case where you are planning on coating I lean towards the HD Polish as it is cleaner and less / almost zero oil.

If you were waxing I would say the WGFG would be a great choice.

As far a pads combo. For Honda paint I would suggest an LC white or black pad. Either a light cut or jeweling pad.

Thanks. I think what I`ll do is start on the hood with the HD polish, one side with white pad and the other side with gold pad and see which comes out better. Thanks for your help.
