Here is my first detailing attempt ever (aside from normal car washing and waxing). I was tired of looking at my vehicles` dirty engines, so I decided to do some research and then detail them with OTC products from the local parts stores. I used GUNK Engine Cleaner & Degreaser followed by GUNK Engine Protectant. They were readily available and inexpensive for my first detailing attempt. Given my inexperience, I think the engine bays came out pretty well. The results have sparked an interest in detailing other parts of my vehicles.

Here are the before and after pics. Let me know what you think! Thanks!

SwedishRider- Welcome to Autopia!

The Ranger looks a *LOT* better, and the Caliber came out nice too. Now it oughta be easy to keep them clean too.

What other areas are you now considering?

Thanks! The Caliber was at least as dirty, but I forgot to take pics before I started working on it. :(

Now that the engines have been done, I`m shifting focus to the exterior of the vehicles. I`m looking to move beyond my typical wash and wax by hand routine and make the paint look as good as possible while being well protected.

I have used Gunk products in the past and still have a couple of cans in the garage. It does make the engine bay look much better.

If you can find it, look for cd-2

Thanks for the suggestion. I looked up CD-2 Engine Detailer, and it looks like it has been discontinued and is now pretty tough to find. I`ll keep a lookout for it though.

Find some old auto parts stores
