It all started a month ago when we got one of those trade in offers. Looked at the fake check an thought ok, let just take a look an see. Well, we looked around an didn`t find anything in MB`s line up (The new interiors are not our taste). So we took a ride to Audi, we`ve always had an eye for the new A7. Overall sharp car but to me was underpowered an too new at the time, fear for quirks we dismissed it back in 2012. This time though, the quirks have been worked out an the lot has opened up. We checked out the ALL the Audi`s here an found a couple but nothing in the color we wanted. After a week of searching, it seemed hopeless.

Then it appeared! The exact color combo, exact wheel specs, exact interior an exact tech specs! All for an insane deal! One catch, 900 miles and only 72 hours to pick it up. I was up for the challenge! The car was an incredible deal, so much so they had 3 other buyers will to drive from other states that day. However, knowing what was at stake, I got a hold of the service manager mins before they opened (Due diligence) an got us first in line. He explained that we had to till the end of the day to put a deposit and 72 hours to get it as they were clearing out inventory asap. I told him you have a deal, he asked where I was coming from, I told him NY, he simply replied... wow, see ya soon.

Oh an one other catch, no flying?! We arranged to trade in our ML. So I had 900 miles to cover in 2 days, (took a day to arrange hotels and set up everything). The next day I hit the road, Car charger, Chex mix, hotel booked. Day 1 was 7 hours even (Stopped in Ohio) an Day 2 was 6 hours an 20 mins. The dealership was nice enough to make arrangements at the Thomson, it was awesome to have a pool an gym after being coup`d up for 12 hours alone. The rest of the group cheated an flew in for pick up. That night we all went to Gibson`s, which is my new favorite steak house bar none.

Pretty nifty hotel!

The next morning we walked around the corner from the Thomson, finalized the paper work an hit the road! Here`s the vid of it in the delivery area! The car in question isn`t an A7 but a 2014 S7! :D

2014 Phantom Black, Black Diamond stitched sport seats, Alcantara W/Carbon V8 Bi-turbo 7 speed Dual Clutch!

From the second I got my hands on it, it was time to start the crazy detailers regiment. Step one, get it protected for the 900 mile high speed assault on the front facia. Did this by doing a full 3m defender spray over 3/4 up the hood line. I`ll admit, I SOAKED it way more then I needed to but knowing how far an long we were traveling it was a must.

This shot was taken as I was stripping it off when we got it home. I used plastidip remover an it literally melted off the car into this goup.

These bugged me, the car must have been backed up into a bush or something wirey. There about 30-50 deep scratches on the front doors an rear fenders where annihilated.

Nice execution from the acquisition, to the planning, prep and all the way through the finished product. I would love to see an interior shot.

I am sure you know that Audi`s are famous for brake dust. What did you seal/coat the wheels with. I would suggest the toughest, slickest coating you can find and do a wheels off sessions so that you can use car wash soap and a pressure washer to tame the brake dust.

Do I remember right that your in college detaiing in the side? Good for you. I was in college in 1984-1988 and my ride was a 1972 Dodge Charger that I got (used) with most of the life squeezed out of it. It could have been cool, but it was just toasted. I sold it for about what I paid for it and had it for 4 plus years. That was a deal. The last 3 letters of the plate were JIT and my friends and I called it a piece of JIT. And it was, but most of them would have been walking if not for it.

Although all Thomsons look alike, that`s actually the Thomson of Chicago (Right in the heart of the city). We actually got the car from Fletcher Jones Audi.

Oh yes, Especially the S7 with 400+ mm brakes. It is the worst duster I`ve ever seen. I do plan on coating the wheels, just haven`t had time. Between the car being a daily (Hence the bra), sending the car off to get everything done + all the polishing an coating the wheels have been put on the back burner. They will get theirs though, I have a bottle of brand new Dlux that will be going on them an the exhaust. I also need to coat the interior with Leather an the Alcantara coating from Dr Beasley`s. I actually went to their HQ, 4 mins from the dealer in Chicago an picked up the products in person.

I`m finished with college (About a year ago). I have been detailing all this time but now I`m ready to move on. I wanted to give it a shot but in the end I want a career where I can travel so this will ultimately be a side hobby. It wasn`t a bad run with over 300+ cars an plenty of exotics, I feel kind of bad closing it up full time. In the end though I want to enjoy my youth an see the world, I have some good options an now it`s finally time to use them.

I will see if I can dig out some shots. It was serious the best steak I`ve ever had an I`ve been to almost all the top steak houses here in NYC. This beat them all.

Yea, it was really bad. Definitely a true diso car. In all in all about 45-50 hours, just because I had to go back do a final polish 3 weeks later with Reflect to remove tracers an prep for CQ UK. I didn`t want to put the coating underneath the bra.

Stunning car...congrats on the new purchase. What a journey !!! :)

The journey was the best part IMO. Traveling that far for something is an experience in itself. I got to see Chicago for the first time and man its a beautiful city. Between the winding roads of PA to the MASSIVE straights of Ohio the ride was incredible. Going through Ohio we really got to get a feel of how much power she`s putting down, we got to experience things that just aren`t possible here on the roads of LI. The high speed cornering through the thruways in PA really showed us how well the car engineered. It really is incredible how docile it is at what we consider high speeds. This was a true break in experience, it really taught us all about the car from learning all the tech inside to using all the drivability outside.
