This is a shout out recommendation and mini-review for Sonus SFX-4 Paint Sealant. B) Sonus SFX-4 Paint Sealant, 8 oz. with Polycharger (http://www.autopia-carcare.com/sonus-paint-sealant.html#.VKm1sE1IWUk)

I am a big fan of waxes. I like they way they look and I enjoy applying them - to a certain extent. If you`re like me and like the "deep wet look" as opposed to the "bright glassy look", then you`re likely a wax addict as well.

However, I would appreciate another month or so of durability. This is what brought me to Collinite a few years back. Both 915 and 845. As most of you know, those "waxes" have polymers in them, especially the 845, which looks and lasts like a traditional sealant. Hence, to my eye, 845 is bright and glassy. It looks great on it`s on (if that`s what you`re after), but topped with a wax like DoDo Blue Velvet, it`s amazing, for a few weeks. The protection of 845 is still there, but I can tell as I dry or QD my car that I`m slowly loosing "the look" that I like.

What if the underlying "sealant" could give me the wet look from the get-go? This would have two advantages: I could use the sealant on it`s own, or, enjoy some of my short-lived "beauty waxes" on top with less worry of loosing protection and wetness.

Enter Sonus SFX-4. This comes off easier than any wax in my collection, such as easy-going Lusso. I applied the first coat with a flat black OC pad and my GG6 on 3. Oddly this method was not as easy as it is with 845. It must have something to do with the surface tension of the two products. While 845 tends to permeate the pad and make for even spreading, the SFX-4 tended to stay in the four spots I applied it on the pad, causing some dry buffing. (The directions say use two dime sized drops on black pad). It didn`t want to prime itself against the paint, even with decent pressure and higher speed. Priming the pad with the sealant by finger would have led to too much product, so I went to a standard-issue wax applicator pad by hand. No problems.

Cure time is 15 minutes per directions, or more. I waited 45 minutes. As I wiped off the product, the look reminded me of Natty`s Liquid Blue. Shiny, bot not glassy, with copious wetness and medium to good depth. A second coat provided an even wetter look, as promised in the directions.

It`s been a few weeks and rain plus one 2B wash and one UWW+ wash haven`t phased it. Beading is good, but not any better than my waxes. I have yet to apply a wax topper, but I`m sure to, as soon as I get the itch.

I`m sold. I`ve found a sealant that this WaxAddict can live with! ;)

Conditions: Garage, medium high humidity (for December) and 75 degrees.
Prep: Mothers Clay, PF2500/white pad, FF4000/blue pad, IPA.

Thanks for the comments. I`ll get an outdoor photo in a follow-up.

Thanks for the review. I would like to see reports on durability....

I`m going to keep the passenger side door, the panel in the photo, free of wax and QDs with wax. We`ll see how she holds up.

Sonus SFX-4 Sealant continues to impress a month after application. The slickness and shine are not waning after 3 rains and as many washes. Today, I topped the front and rear bumper with DoDo Blue Velvet and I was amazed at the slickness and how easy the wax applied. Thanks to the glass-smooth surface, a tiny amount of DoDo on the applicator seemed to glide across the entire bumper. I`ve used Blue Velvet as a topper on the soft bumper covers in the past and it looks great. While the `Juice added some pop, it was much more subtle under the SFX-4 than under 915 or 845. Especially with 845, Blue Velvet really warms up the plastic, but it seemed the Sonus product needs less spit shine - having a depth and glow that 845 doesn`t have IME.
I`ll top most of the other panels with Natty`s Blue (always looks great on the curvy metal parts) and leave one door un-topped to check the durability of the Sonus SFX-4.

So far so good, and I can highly recommend this sleeper product!

In the pics, the fender and hood have two coats of SFX-4. The bumper has 2x SFX-4 and 1x Blue Velvet.

Looks great in the sun. Looking forward to your follow up on durability. I think the polycharger in it really adds to the look of SFX4.

4-MONTH UPDATE

Four months find the Sonus SFX-4 Sealant hanging in there! This is good news to me - to find a wax-looking sealant with longevity. In the photo below, this part of the passenger side has been left alone insofar as LSP. I will say that it has seen ONR, Optimum Car Wash, and UWW+. This is fairly typical stuff, so I can`t say this is cheating. As drying agents, this car has seen CG Speed Wipe and Adam`s Detailer. So, on to the pic....

Note the shedding, but also note that this is a vertical panel. I can see some diminishing of protection, and I`ll likely redo the SFX-4 in the next month, before the really hot weather is here to stay until Halloween. If this super-easy-to-use sealant lasts as long as 915 and looks as good, that Collinite tin may start to gather some dust. Bittersweet, really.

I can attest that SFX-4 looks great topped with waxy waxes. Rainforest Rub, Natty`s Blue, and Blue Velvet have seen topping duties on the back deck, roof, and bumpers, and it`s stunning. So much fun to apply wax over such a glassy smooth surface!

SFX-4 is a WIN in my book. It`s only $12.99 for 8 ounces, and them ounces go a LONG way.

Thanks for the update. Looks pretty good. Does Sonus have their own website? I like companies to have websites just in case of questions.
