Hi All,
As the title says, this was my friends wife`s Nissan Pathfinder...Black! I had always been in fear of correcting a Black vehicle for the obvious reasons. After many years, I decided to confront my fears! I explained this to my friend and offered to help him and he accepted.
The vehicle was Decontaminated, Corrected, and coated with CQuartz UK followed by RELOAD.
The following was used for Deconing...
-Iron X soap via Foam Cannon(undiluted) and diluted in 3 bucket wash, including a wheel bucket. Included various Micro Fiber Mitts and Daytona Wheel brushes
-Trix Iron and Tar Remover, Nanoskin Block and Mitt along with Nanoskin Glide Lubricating spray.
-Final wash- CG Citrus Wash(Red) Foam Gun and 3 bucket wash again. An APC was used on the tires. Final rinse with pressure washer.
Correction process utilized a Flex 3401, 5"-6" inch pads, and a Porter Cable DA with 3" pads. After a few experiments, a pad and polish combo were chosen and the work began. We went with HD ADAPT as a one step for the most part. There were some areas where we did finish with HD Polish. I was happy that ADAPT was so easy to work with. Luckily, my friend had learned to use proper wash techniques so the correction process did not take forever...LOL! Finally, we wiped the car down with CAR PRO ERASER.
Once he was very happy with the correction, we had a cup of coffee and prepared for the coating.
It was decided that I would apply the CQuartz UK and he would take care of the wipe down. We followed the directions that Corey had demonstrated in the video. Also, a BIG THANKS to Tad a.k.a. Dark Horse, Rasky, and others for the help in applying pointers. It took us about 2 to 2 and a half hours to complete. The temperature in my garage was 63 and the relative humidity was 37%. I used 1 block and 5 suede cloth pieces and my friend used 8 16"x16" towels.
All in all it was an easy process with great results. The body and wheels were coated and the vehicle sat in my garage overnight for good measure. After doing a little more research, I applied RELOAD 2014. I had diluted it 1:1 and used a damp MF towel followed by a second dry MF towel to buff.
Finally, the tires were treated to 2 coats of PEARL. Overall, it was a two day project for us.
The first photo is a reflection shot off the hood, the second of the right side, the third another hood shot in my garage, the fourth and fifth are obvious.
The first and third are my favorites.

Great work! What pad did you end up using with HD Adapt and how did you work it?

LC Hybrid Blue light cut and White polish pads. Slow arm with semi- moderate pressure to start. 6-8 passes on average, depending on amount of correction.

Is Adapt the re-invention of UNO?

In all actuality, Adapt it`s totally different from UNO. With UNO you basically used 1 polish and switched out pads for the cutting & polishing duties. With Adapt, 1 product and 1 pad will cut & finish. This means less steps (one). Adapt also uses a combination of chemicals and abrasives to level defects and create gloss. many people are achieving excellent correction even with a polishing pad (soft paints).

Adapt is some great stuff. Probably the best new product I came across in 2014. Its my go to for most of my one step corrections. I have used it many times with my Flex 3401 and the Buff and Shine Microfiber pads. Cuts great and finishes outstanding!

In the past I have ordered a fair bit of product from HD and imported it for use at my shop in Canada. With the low Canadian dollar and the hassle of dealing with importing I stopped bringing it in. Adapt looks like a great product for a shop environment though...might have to break down and order some. David...has HD finally got a Canadian distributor yet? I heard talk of it a couple years ago.
