On numerous detailing forums I frequent, everyone says how "sticky" Subaru paint can be. This is an understatement! I detailed this Ruby Red Pearl Outback on June 16th. The car had a little over 53K miles and had never been detailed, just washed and waxed by the owner. `

`

The wheels were cleaned with Sonax Full Effect, the tires were cleaned with CAR products Maxiwhite.

The paintwork was foamed with Zep Blue Max, the foam was alowed to dwell for a few minutes, then the paintwork was washed with Zep Blue Max via the two bucket method.

`

The car was then clayed using Meguiar`s blue detailing clay and dried with waffle weave microbers. This is the clay after doing just the driver`s side front fender; the clay looked like this after every panel with the exception of the hood and roof.

After I washed and dried the vehicle, I tackled the interior. The driver`s side carpet had some very heavy salt staining... this was under the accelerator pedal in the area not covered by the floor mats

I wet the area down with Folex, then scrubbed with a stiff brush and extracted with my Bissell LGM.

`

The rest of the carpeting had dust and dog hair. This rotating brush attachment to our Dyson house vac fits the hose of my wet/dry vac, so using this and my pet hair removal brush, I was able to clean up the rest of the interior

`

The dash and door panels were cleaned with Sonax dash cleaner, the seats were wiped down with a damp cloth, as they just had a light coating of dust/pollen.

`

I then taped off the mouldings and roof rack and started the polish phase. I chose to use Meguiar`s dual action cleaner polish. Because of the "stickiness" of the paint, I had to buff a small section, then use a microfiber dampened with Meguar`s Final Inspection to remove the residue. I then used Meguiar`s 105 to polish the car. I did an ONR wash to remove any remaining residue from polishing. The paintwork was then protected with Meguiar`s #21 synthetic sealant.

`

The windows were cleaned with Stoner`s Invisible Glass, the trim was coated with Stoner`s Trim Shine and the tires were coated with Stoner`s tire shine.

`

Here are the afters...
