For polishing step (2nd step after compounding) prior to sealant would you guys consider using a black MF pad with griots DA on Audi brilliant black or BMW silver grey metallic? `Or would a less aggressive foam pad (3rd step) following the black MF pad theoretically lead to a significantly noticeable, better result?

`

Thanks,

I would always finish with foam. Depending on how much haze your compounding step leaves behind, you may need a more aggressive finishing combination to ensure that all of the compounding haze was removed. That`s why it is sometimes necessary to do a middle step with a medium polish before final finishing.

HD Polish with a black or blue pad should net excellent results. I really don`t think a 3rd step is needed depending on what was used on the cutting step.

I`ve only done a little work with the HD Polish, very little but enough that it quickly became my new fave finishing polish.` I used a Griot`s orange polishing pad (presumably very similar to the LC Hydro Tangerine) and on fairly hard clear (repainted and oe panels on my wife`s Audi) it worked well as a follow-up after HD Cut and M105.` Finished out fine (IMO), no need to go over it again with a milder pad.

Thanks all. `David, my uncertainty pertained to the microfiber pad and whether a black MF pad would yield the same finished result compared to a black foam pad

I`m not sure which black MF pad you`re referring to? Megs??? `Regardless, foam usually yields the best final finish. And with a DA, don`t feel the need to go with the softest pad either. A bit of firmness is ideal.`

keep_it_clean- Note that I`m just repeating what I`ve heard; I`ve never actually used the LC Tangerine.

`

I do like those GG orange pads though, they wear like iron.` If I could only have *one* pad, period, it`d probably be my choice...right up there with the Cyclo green pad (which *was* the only 4" foam pad for years and years; we did just fine with it).

<span style="font-family:tahoma, geneva, sans-serif;">It`s really too bad that they don`t make them in the 5.5" size.` I have a handful of them in 6.5" but I just don`t care for 6.5" pads, especially in orange so I rarely use them.

mshu7- Note that the GG orange pads are so different (much milder) compared to most "orange pads" that the size shouldn`t be an issue.` For the kind of work I do with HD Polish they work out fine.

For me at least, they are still too firm as a 6.5" pad.` The only 6.5" pad I ever use is the Meg`s yellow polishing pad.` Other than wishing the velcro covered more of the back, I love those pads as a 6.5" polishing pad.` That said, I only use them on "quick" one-step jobs where I`m not looking for much correction.

Huh, OK., you know what you like!

`

Out of curiosity, what polisher are you using with these?

The GG polisher.` Although, Rupes will be on order soon.

Ah, the GG...just goes to show how different people like different combos.` I was kinda surprised that I`m usually OK with 6-6.5" pads on the GG.
