View Full Version : Leaving excess wax on for too long?

Ok, so I have a 96 4runner that I really dont give much of a hoot on what it looks like. The whole front end is in need of a respray. What I do care about is basically just keeping it in clean order and making for easy washes. So for my next road trip I am thinking about waxing the front end, and instead of removing the excess just leaving it on for the duration. Yea it may not look great, but I am hoping it will make it easier to remove the bugs/grime/anything with a simple wash or even quick pressure wash. So would leaving the excess on, say a week long, damage the chrome, or paint at all? I know there is a solvent in the wax to make it soft and easy to apply, but that completely evaporates off right?

MR.H44- Welcome to Autopia!

It won`t damage anything but depending on which wax you use it might be an incredible PIA to buff it off later.

`

FWIW, I`d just use a wax that would let you clean the bugs off easily, namel FK1000P). That stuff makes washing an absolute breeze and it lasts for months.

FWIW#2, I bet that with a good detailing that vehicle would look so good that you *would* give a hoot about its appearance ;)

found it on amazon (`http://www.amazon.com/15oz-Finish-Kare-1000P-Hi-Temp/dp/B002NZL6M6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1400453383&sr=8-1&keywords=FK1000P`).

But in all seriousness XD

this is how I like my truck, and the hood has so much clear coat damage, it`ll need a respray, im thinking flat black, so that I can do it and not spend a ton of momey else where.
