Here`s my 1969 Sony Trinitron model KV-1210U CRT TV. It was one of Sony`s first ever Trinitron sets they made. I found this in my local Kijiji Toronto classifieds for $30.00 February 2014. It still works and looks like new ! The picture quality is simply amazing !
Made in Japan.
MSRP was $319.95 in 1969

Based on my experience with Sony TV`s, starting in the mid 80`s, within 3 years, "BLOOEY", they were out of warranty, and the cost to fix them was close to the price of other Japanese sets.

This happened to three of them and basically the same for some friends.`

So, it was not just "me". We used to talk about this issue.

Not a Sony fan, sorry.`

Hmmmm? My dad used to purchase nothing but Sony products and we had our stuff for tons of years w/o any issues. He passed that rationale onto me and I kept it going strong until just a few years ago when I realized the value in other offerings.`

The old Sony up til 1989ish was amazing.

I mean this 1969 trinitron still works flawlessly !

Rob.- Hey, that brings back memories....we had some incredibly long-lived Sony TVs (and our BetaMax never did die..).` Actually, even now`all our`current household TVs are Sonys, and the newest one must be at least 10 years old.

Ya know...*lots* of things were that way before manufacturers figured out what they could skimp on and what degree of unreliability/planned obsolescence people would put up with.

Rob.- IMO things started going downhill long before China pushed them over the edge.

Had Sony TV`s growing up and always got Sony up to about 15 years ago. Never had a problem with one. They all lasted decades and were great hand me downs.`

`

Then I bought a new flat screen Sony about 10 years ago. Within a month I had problems. Got it replaced 3 times during its one year warranty. Finally the warranty ended and the tv went bad the same week. Had to go out and buy a non-sony.

`

No more Sony for me.
