This truck, was soooo unbelievably dirty. I swear it was in a swamp. The pictures will show for themselves, but I warn you, it is terrible!


I don`t have any after pictures, besides one (my phone died) but trust me, it looked 100% better!


I guess I can`t really "brag" here *shrug* :(

Your phone died? Water damage?

If water, take it apart and clean it with distilled water,

I would douse it in distilled water ASAP, because

it is the minerals that causes problems.

After douse in di, put in oven or dehydrator at lowest setting.


If it`s not water, I can`t help.

@ 4W: No, my phone just ran out of battery. I left my charger at home, I was pretty upset. It looked like a whole different car afterwards. Car was terrible, I had to keep washing and washing and washing the interior because it had type of clay stuck to the plastic and made it all white when dry. But I finally got it to stop turning white, just some elbow grease is all it took. :)

@toyotaguy I didn`t charge enough. I should have made at least made 100-200 more, but I didn`t use much product, mostly just soap and water and a pressure washer. I was also thinking construction... but! it was tight with mud and dirt EVERYWHERE! In the engine, undercarriage, bed of the truck and it was hard hard mud. It was terrible, just did the inside and called it a day.

It doesn`t matter how much product,

It matters your time, and that it was done right.


The fact that you used less product,

should be more money in your pocket.

Or did the customer misrepresent the condition?


One thing that I tell my customers before I start,

This is just a quote. Everything depends on how long

it takes me to get it done right. It could be easier

than I expect, and save you some money. I could

be more difficult and cost extra.


If you have a firm amount that you don`t want to exceed,

let me know and we can work around that. Otherwise,

I want to be able to clean your car to my standards.




It`s my opinion that detailers get screwed by static pricing. Think of a mechanic. If they are repairing an engine, and it takes 4 extra hours, so they do it for free? If a contractor finds that he must rip the floors up, are they expected to do this at no additional charge?


This is where we differ from a car wash. A 50 dollar wash is just that. They put in about 30 dollars of effort, and shrug at the rest. That standard doesn`t satisfy us.


Just remember that you should not sell yourself short, regardless of age. Your work speaks of talent and persistence beyond your years.


To me, just the way that you talk and ask questions shows that you are not a kid cutting yards. You are someone who is well on the path of becoming a professional detailer.


I am in the process of learning hydrographics and paintless dent repairs in order to inflate my earnings. I also hope to change to external details only, as that is more satisfying and profitable. Lots of people can clean carpet, but how many can care for paint correctly?

Thanks for that reply, it was really encouraging. Well... all three of your questions are correct. It was my fault and his fault, he didn`t say that it looked like someone had parked it in a swamp for years. I got there and I was shocked. And it took way longer than I thought. The reason was, it wasn`t just a simple pressure wash. There was mud under the mats, under the seats, behind the seats, everywhere! It was terrible.`


I now am realizing that I have to just give estimates, which, if it`s worse than expected then I tell them it will be more. Yes, I am 15 (soon 16 :D ) I`m a little different than other kids, I`m home-schooled, just for 8th grade and high school. So I get a lot of time to read and do research. There is still a lot for me to learn and research. I think some people are surprised when they see me, because I sound older on the phone than I look. But thank you, I really do appreciate everything you said! I would love to be a professional one day and I also want to learn PDR. I was thinking about investing into some rods and practicing, then when I have some money, go to class to learn more technique.`


I never thought when I was younger that I would have a job that I would enjoy and a have a job that involved vehicles. (because everyone in my family are mechanics and body men) and now I have both. :D I`m also very excited for my future move, I`m going to be in the middle of 2 states that are only about 1hr away and have big towns and cities.
